A Summer To Remember
Chapter
4
I woke up
to a loud and obnoxious ringing. I rubbed my eyes and sat up in
my bed. I saw Jess walk through the door with a towel on her
head and completely dressed and ready. “Hey you’re
up!” she said cheerfully. Why is she so awake?
“Yeah, the stupid bell woke me up. How are you already up
and ready?”
“I’m an early riser. It’s actually better
that way because then the bathroom is completely crowded with
girls trying to take a shower, do their hair, and apply make-up
all at once.”
“I am no where near an early riser.” I dragged
myself out of bed and grabbed my shampoo and conditioner and a
pair of jean shorts and a tank top. I found my way towards the
bathroom and realized Jess was right. There were girls
literally everywhere. After waiting for about 5 minutes, a
shower finally opened up. I took a quick shower, wrapped my
hair in a towel, got dressed and walked back to my room.
“Tomorrow, please wake me up when you get up.” I
said to Jess when I stepped through the door.
“A little chaotic isn’t it?”
“A little?” I said laughing. I took my hair out of
the towel and just through it up into a ponytail. I
didn’t even bother to put any make-up on. I rarely did
anyways, just a little eyeliner and mascara, but it was summer
and I was at some stupid camp, so why bother with make-up?
“Goin’ natural?” Jess asked when I picked up
my eyeliner and then placed it back into my bag.
“It’s summer, why bother cake on make-up,
especially if I go swimming. I don’t want to have to
worry about it running all over my face and making me look like
a raccoon.” I explained.
“Smart move.”
“I know. Now come on, before we miss breakfast.” I
grabbed her wrist and pulled her out the door.
We got to the dining hall and there were only about 10 other
people. “Another perk of getting up earlier is you
get a better choice of breakfast.” Jess told me smiling.
She pulled me towards a long table that had food from one end
to the other. We both grabbed a plate and scanned the table of
endless food. I ended up grabbing two pancakes, two pieces of
bacon, a banana, and some strawberries. Jess grabbed some
scrambled eggs, three pieces of bacon and an orange. Once we
got all our food we sat down at an open table. By now everyone
else had come in and started getting their food.
We were just sitting there, eating our breakfast quietly when
something hit the back of my head. I turned my head and looked
to the floor to see an apple. I rolled my eyes and turned back
around. It’s only day two and already some people are
acting so immature. “Hey sorry ‘bout that, my
friends over there are just immature idiots.” I heard
someone say to my left.
“You could say that again.” I said not even
glancing at whoever was standing there.
“I’m Chase, by the way.”
“I could care less.” I said finally turning my head
and giving the kid a smirk. I heard some
“oh’s” behind me and one kid said, “You
just got told.” I couldn’t help but laugh a little
at that comment.
“So you play hard to get? I see how it is. Well for your
information, I don’t give up easily.”
“Well for your information, you’re not my
type.” I said smiling sweetly. I got out of my seat and
threw away my garbage before he even had time to answer. Those
were the kind of people I wanted to avoid. It was only 9 and we
don’t start doing any activities until 9:30 so I took the
time to just walk around a little.
I walked out of the room and took a left and bumped right into
someone. I looked up and saw Anthony smiling down at me.
“Hey Sarah where ya goin?”
“Anywhere but there.” I answered pointing towards
the dining hall. “
What happened already?”
“Some immature idiot tried hitting on me, which is
exactly what I wanted to avoid this summer.” He
didn’t answer right away and instead he changed the
subject.
“Well you better get back in there. They’re going
to announce who has which counselor and they’ll talk
about the schedule and things you should know.”
I sighed, turned myself around and walked back into the dining
joining Jess at a table. I sat down and everyone else at the
table turned towards me. “Guys, I’d like you to
meet Sarah, she’s my roommate this summer. Sarah this is,
Chris, Jason, and Meghan.”
“Nice to meet you guys.” I said waving at them.
“You too.” Meghan said back. Chris and Jason just
nodded towards me.
They all started talking to each other and I just felt out of
place…again. It seems everyone knows there place at this
camp and I’m just the outsider who can’t seem to
find where to go. This summer needs to go by fast. Gosh, I
never thought I’d be saying that.
Comments? is anyone still reading? How are you guys liking it
so farr???
A Summer To Remember
Chapter
3
“What are you doing here?”
I asked. At first I just thought it was Jess and I was just
going to ignore them, but after seeing who was really there I
changed my mind. He didn’t move from the shadows.
“I could ask the same about you.” Anthony
responded. I didn’t know how to respond to that so I
turned back around and looked back towards the now fading
sunset.
“Peaceful out here isn’t it?” I heard him say
as he walked over and took a seat next to me.
“I’m not answering your question until you answer
mine.” I said smirking. He chuckled a little.
“Alright then. I’m here because I like to get away
from everything for a little bit. I know it’s only the
first day of camp, but it gets pretty hectic and I come here
just to think and relax. Now what about you?”
“I feel like I don’t belong here. I don’t
know anyone. I don’t have a clue on how to get from place
to place, I’ll probably get lost getting back to the
dining hall, and I don’t want to be here.” I said
flatly.
“I see. Well I can tell you that you’ll make
friends here and…”
I cut him off right there. “I don’t need friends.
Every time I get a new friends they some how stab me in the
back. I’m done with friends. I can get along just fine
without them.” I kinda sounded a little bitchy, but
that’s all people have been telling me about this place.
And it was simple. I. Didn’t. Want. Friends.
“Look, I know its hard being new. Some people have been
here for 5 years. You just need to lighten up and have some
fun.”
“What if it’s not that easy?” I said turning
to face him. He just looked at me, like he didn’t know
what to say. Truth is I didn’t know where that came from;
it just kinda came out.
We starred at each other for a short period of time until he
finally looked away. So we sat there in silence. Not saying one
word. Just starring out at the lake and the now dark sky. After
about 15 minutes we got up and wiped his hands. “Come on,
it’s getting late, and you still need to eat
dinner.” He said holding his hand out for me. I took it
in mine and he pulled me off the ground. “We never
formally met,” he said not taking his hand out of mine,
“I’m Anthony.”
“I’m Sarah, you’re apparently my
counselor.”
“Sounds good.” He let go of my hand and led the way
back to the dining hall.
I paid close attention to the surroundings and the paths he
took so when I come out here by myself I can find my way back.
I finally spotted the dim-lit hall and realized no one was in
there anymore. I wasn’t really hungry anyway so when we
reached a place I remembered I started off back towards my
room. “Where are you going?” his voice startled me.
I thought he didn’t realize I wasn’t following him
anymore.
“Back to my room. I’m not eating alone, and
I’m not that hungry anyway.” Of course my stomach
had to growl at that point, pretty loudly may I add.
“Doesn’t sound that way. And I’ll be there
with you so you won’t be alone.” He wasn’t
exactly the person I wanted to eat dinner with but he would
have to do for now.
“Alright, fine. Lead the way.” I said gesturing
with my hands.
We got into the dining hall and I took a seat at one of the
many tables while he went into the kitchen and got us food. He
came out minutes later with two bowls in his hand. “All
they had left was some soup, usually they have enough left over
afterwards but I guess not this time.” He laughed at his
own words. I found it kinda funny and found myself laughing as
well.
“Soups fine.”
“Good, because if it wasn’t you would be going
without food until tomorrow morning, which wouldn’t be
good.”
We sat and ate in complete silence. The only noises you heard
was the clanking of our spoons and the faint chatter of people
in their rooms. I didn’t realize just how hungry I was
until I basically shoveled down the soup. “Little hungry
over there?” he said. I looked up from slurping the last
bits of my soup to see him smiling at me. I felt like a
complete idiot.
“Sorry, guess I was pretty hungry after all.” I
said trying to casually shake it off.
“It’s alright. I’m used to it. I have three
older brothers, things as simple as that doesn’t bother
me anymore.”
“I wouldn’t know about anything like that,
I’m an only child.” So then we started talking
about our families, friends, sports, and everything else.
Anthony was down to earth, funny, isn’t afraid to show
his feelings, and over all a really nice guy. I was glad that
he was my camp counselor.
“Well we should head off to bed, gotta wake up early
tomorrow.” He said taking our bowls and bringing them
into the kitchen.
“Yeah, I’ll see you tomorrow, bright and early. Oh
and it was nice to get to know you Anthony.”
“You to Sarah, see you tomorrow.” I made it back to
my room without getting lost and when I closed the door Jess
shot straight up from lying in her bed.
“Where have you been? I didn’t see you at dinner I
got worried.”
“I was with Anthony, don’t worry.”
“Oh my god. Tell me everything!”
Before I told her all about it I had one thought in mind. Maybe
making some new friends wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

A Summer To Remember
Chapter
2
Jess led the way
out of the room. When we got to the bonfire area everyone else
was already there. We found a little empty area and took a
seat. Standing in front of everyone was an older looking lady.
She had long brown hair with hints of gray, brown eyes, and a
very slim body.
“Hello everyone and welcome to Camp Sherwood,” once
she started everyone quieted down, “For those who
don’t know, I’m Leslie, the camp director. If you
have any questions you can come to me for the answer. So there
are a few new comers here so I will introduce the camp
counselors.”
Four people stepped up from the shadows. They were all wearing
some kind of khaki shorts, and a t-shirt that had Camp Sherwood
written across the front in some sort of graffiti like writing.
Leslie started to speak again,
“All the way to my right here is Kelsey,” I
remembered Kelsey from when I first got here.
“Next to her is Zack,” Zack was a nice looking guy.
He had short blonde hair, light blue eyes, and really tan skin,
the typical surfer type,
“Third is Christine,” Christine had a very skinny
body, but you could tell she had a lot of muscle. She had
shorter strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, and very pale
skin.
“And last but definitely not last, Anthony.” I
looked towards Anthony, and holy cow, was he gorgeous. He had
longer brown hair that was streaked with blonde from the sun,
hazel eyes, and a very muscular body. You could tell he was
very athletic. There was a moment when our eyes met and he
smiled. His smile was to die for. His teeth looked like he just
had them professionally whitened or something. I couldn’t
believe he was my counselor.
“Alright, now that that’s out of the way, breakfast
is served every morning at 8:30 sharp. Lunch is at 2:45. Dinner
is at 7 on the dot. All meals are in the dining hall. There is
a period of time that we like to call free time, from after
lunch until 5:30. This is a time where you can meet with
friends that aren’t in your group, go swimming in the
lake, or just hang out. Wake up is at 8 and lights out at 11,
no later,” Leslie clapped her hands together and looked
towards the counselors. “Like I said earlier if you have
any questions just come to me and ask. I think I covered just
about everything. Enjoy your time here and have fun!” She
walked through some trees and I watched as she disappeared in
the shadows.
“Come on Sarah, I’ll show you around a little
before dinner.” Jess said holding her hand out to me to
help me off the ground. She showed me every possible place in
the camp. She made me go through each one at least 5 times so
she was sure I wouldn’t get lost.
When the clock hit 7 a loud bell rang throughout the camp,
which made me jump. “That’s the bell that tells
everyone when a meal is ready. You get used it once
you’ve been here for a few days.” Jess reassured
me. She started off towards the dining hall, but I stayed
behind.
“Sarah, you coming?” she asked.
“Yeah, I’ll be there in a minute. I wanna see if I
can make it there on my own.” I lied. What I really
wanted to do was just sit out by the lake by myself. I
wasn’t really that hungry anyway. She hesitated before
she answered.
“Alright, just holler if you get lost, I guarantee
someone will hear you.” she laughed a little to herself
and ran off.
When I was sure she was out of sight I started my way to the
lake. I reached the edge and sat down. I took of my socks and
shoes and dipped my feet in. A mixture of pinks, purples, and
oranges outlined the golden sun. It looked beautiful. I
didn’t know exactly how long I was sitting out there, and
frankly, I could care less. I was lost in my own train of
thought when I heard a snap of a branch. I quickly turned my
head to see someone coming through the woods. My heart started
beating faster. I didn’t know anyone at this camp, other
than Jess and I could tell this wasn’t here, and for all
I knew this could be some creep that could take me away. As the
figure stepped into the dim light coming from the camp I
recognized just who it was and they were probably the last
person I would have expected to see.
how is it so far???? commentssssss.
P.S. i have never been to a sleep away camp, therefore it may
not be like a real camp, but this is how i picture it in the
story so this is how it's gonna be. if you dont like it,

A Summer To Remember
Chapter 1 part
2
So here I am, standing in front of Camp
Sherwood, with my suitcase in hand and my mom next to me.
“Don’t worry Sarah, you’ll be having fun in
no time.” She tried reassuring me, but as far as I knew,
this wasn’t going to be fun.
“Whatever you say mom.” I mumbled under my
breath.
She started walking through the gates and I slowly followed. As
we were walking I could tell that this wasn’t what I
expected when my mom said camp. I figure there would be log
cabins, non-flushable toilets, no showers, no air
conditioning or anything electrical, but I was completely
wrong. There were building that were almost like dorm rooms all
over the place, bathrooms spread out equally over the land and
as far as I could tell there were plenty of electrical
devices. Maybe this
won’t be so bad. I thought. My mom
stopped at one of the buildings and stepped in. The only person
that was there was a lady that looked about 25 with glasses
over her blue eyes, brown hair pulled into a pony tail, sitting
at a desk on a computer with a whole pile of papers in front of
her. She looked up when the door closed behind us and took of
her glasses. “Hello, how may I help you?” she
asked.
“Hi, I’m Denise Prestings, and this is my
daughter Sarah, I called about a week ago and got her into this
camp.” She told the lady. She called a week ago and she
just told me about it yesterday? What the hell?
The lady shuffled through some papers until she finally found
the one she was looking for. “Ah here it is. Sarah, I
assure you that you will have a great time at Camp
Sherwood.”
I just nodded. I bet she’s supposed to say that whether
she means it or not.
“Oh by the way my name is Kelsey, I’m one of the
camp counselors,” she said looking down at my file,
“But I’m not your counselor, you have
Anthony. Hm. He’s a nice guy. You’ll probably
get along just fine.” As if. I thought. She
looked more at my file and then led me and my mom to my room. I
was in building C room 35. When I walked in I say that there
were two beds in the room, one that already had a suitcase open
and clothes all over it, Yay a roommate, and the other
that was still cleanly made. I walked over and through my
suitcase on it and sat down. My mom and Kelsey talked a little
more but I didn’t pay attention to them. I was
concentrating on the bed across from me. Who is my roommate?
Are they nice? Will we get along? Are we gonna hate each other?
Millions of questions ran through my head. Just then a girl
that looked about 5’ 4” with long, curly, blonde
hair walkedin and continued to unpack her stuff not
even noticing me. “Hey, I’m Sarah.” I said.
She didn’t even turn around. She just continued unpacking
like I wasn’t even there. She finally turned around and I
realized she had headphones in her ears. When she saw me she
jumped and took out the headphones.
“Oh my god, I didn’t even know you were there, I am
so sorry.” She said.
“It’s alright,” I told her, “I’m
Sarah, by the way.”
“Jessica, but everyone calls me Jess. Are you new here? I
don’t remember seeing you last summer.”
“Yeah, I’m kinda new to this. My mom thinks I need
to make new friends.” I told her.
“Doesn’t approve of the ones you have?”
“There aren’t any for her to approve.”
She just nodded like she understood where I was coming from and
then turned back to her suitcase. I took this silence to start
unpacking myself. I realized that next to my bed was small
table with a clock on it, a small dresser on the other side of
the bed and a closet about 5 feet away. As I started putting
clothes into the dresser, Jess started talking, “You
know, camp isn’t as bad as people make it to be.
It’s actually pretty fun. You make so many friends and
it’s a great way to spend your summer, believe it or
not.”
“I don’t believe it.” I said.
“Suit yourself.” She said.
“Alright Sarah, time for me to go. I’ll see you at
then end of summer.” My mom said giving me a hug.
“Bye.”
She walked out and I finished unpacking.
“All campers please join at the bonfire field for some
announcements.” I heard a voice say.
“That’s our cue. Come on, follow me. I can show you
around later so you don’t get lost.” She said
walking out the door. I took a deep breath and followed behind
her ready to start possibly the worst summer of my life.
What do you guys think of the new story so
far??? Commentsss. Feedbackkk.

A Summer To Remember
Chapter 1 part 1
I stood in front of the front
gates of Camp Sherwood and only one thought was going through
my head. This is going to be the worst summer of my life. Well,
I guess I should rewind a little and tell you exactly how I
ended up in this situation.
********************
First I should
tell you all who I am. My name is Sarah. I’m 5’
2” and a sophomore at Jefferson High School. I have long
straight black hair and bright green eyes, a lot of people tell
me I’m really pretty but I honestly don’t see it,
but then again no one thinks that. I’m not really too
popular, I mean I have some friends, I guess, but I’m not
the person everyone wants to be. So know that you know who I
am, let’s get back to the story…
“Summer
camp? Are you kidding me?” I screamed at my mom.
“Sarah, you need to get out of the house. Ever since
you’re break up with Kyle you have been nowhere except in
your room on that computer of yours. You need to go out and
make some friends since you shut out your old ones.” My
mom explained.
“First of all, I didn’t shut out my friends, I only
had Kayla anyway, and she was the one the Kyle cheated on me
with. It’s not my fault.”
“What about Stacy?” Stacy was a girl from school.
We didn’t talk much but we were in all the same honors
classes. I guess you could consider her a friend but it’s
not like we actually talked or hung out like normal friends
do.
“Stacy isn’t really a friend, Kayla was all I
had and now she’s gone which means I have no friends
anymore.”
“How about that nice boy next door, he’s
seems like a good guy.”
“Steven? He’s a geek!”
“Oh don’t be so judgmental.” My mom scolded
me.
“I’m not! Have you seen the kid? All he does is
study, he has no fashion sense whatsoever and he has no
friends, and I’m not being his first.” I said
firmly.
My mom sighed realizing I wasn’t going to change my mind
on this. “Whatever the case may be, you’re still
going to be attending Camp Sherwood this summer and
you’re making friends.”
“You can’t make me make friends.” I told
her.
“But I know you. You are a very sociable girl,
you’re pretty, smart, funny and I am positive you will
make friends whether you like it or not.” she assured
me.
“Whatever you say mom.” I said walking
upstairs.
“Start packing, we are leaving tomorrow.” I heard
her say as I was halfway up the stairs.
“Not gonna happen mom.” I said as I was now at my
bedroom door.
“If you don’t I will.” I heard her say as I
opened my door.
Great, once my
mom says that she’s not joking, she would pack my stuff
for me. I walked over to my closet grabbed my suit case and
started packing for the worst summer of my life.
