A Chance Encounter

Chapter Seventeen (Part Three of However Many There Are)

“Uhh, Niall? I live that way,” I pointed to the direction in which we came from.
“Ahh. Oh well. We’ll go around the block.” He shrugged. We continued on the sidewalk, grasping hands. Surprisingly, we hadn’t run into any more fans. Given, it was around 11 on a Friday night. Most of them probably had curfews, but I wasn’t complaining. I liked being able to talk to Niall without hearing a scream behind us. It felt like I was just talking to Niall Horan from Mullingar, not Niall Horan from One Direction.
“So… Tell me about yourself, Addie. I feel like I know you so well, but I really don’t know you at all.” We turned a corner as Niall asked me this.
“Oh gosh… I’m probably going to ramble, so there’s your warning. Uhh, I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Becca is my best friend, and she has been since 3rdgrade when I moved to Georgia from New York City. We’re here for summer holidays. This trip was originally our high school graduation present from our parents, but they bought the flat because we’re staying here for university. My parents are divorced, but they get on pretty well. I have an older sister and 2 younger brothers, plus my cat that I’ve had since I was eleven, Mitsy.” I paused when I heard Niall’s signature giggle. “Hey!” I socked him on the arm. “I was eleven!”
“I’m not laughing!” He argued. “It’s cute.” He smirked and pulled me closer to him.
“Anyways,” I said sarcastically, “Can I continue with my terribly boring life story?”
“It’s not boring,” He said. “And please go on.”
“Okay. Well, I love big cities; I was planning on moving back to New York after college. I miss it so badly. I’m usually a pretty loud person; stick around for a while and you’ll find that out. I sing all the time, but I’m rubbish at it. You’ll probably find that out sooner or later. My favorite artists are Cher Lloyd, Olly Murs, Ed Sheeran, The Script, and JLS. Oh, and I like this band called One Direction, but you’ve probably never heard of them.” I giggled.
“Oh, I thing I might have heard that name somewhere before!” He kidded. We turned another corner.
“Really? Interesting. Alright. Uhh, I love little kids. When I finally get married, I want three. I’m studying at Cambridge to become a doctor, and Becca’s going to be a primary school teacher. She’s a miracle worker with small children. Hmm… Let’s see… I can’t really think of anything else at the moment, except that I really love it here, but I’m not used to it being so chilly on summer nights!” I rubbed my hands up and down my arms to warm myself up.
“Here!” Niall said, “Take this!” He took off the sweater he was wearing and wrapped it around my shoulders. I have to admit it, I was halfway hoping that he was shirtless underneath, but he was wearing a plain white t-shirt, which looked excellent on him.
“Thank you,” I smiled. “So yeah, that was all I could think of. I know, I sound about as fun as a rock, but as I think of more, I’ll let you know.”
“You don’t sound like a rock.” Niall slightly ruffled my hair before laying his arm over my shoulders and pulling me in for yet another hug.
“Thanks. I would ask you about yourself, but I know a lot about you already,” I blushed. “I’m just being honest.”
“Honestly is brilliant, love.” He whispered. We walked in silence for a few minutes; we had finally circled the block and gotten back on the right path.
“About how much farther down, love?” Niall asked me after about ten minutes of comfortable silence. It was nice, just being able to walk with someone and not feel the need to constantly say something. With Niall, the silence was comforting and welcome.
“Maybe three or four blocks?” I estimated.
“Wow! It doesn’t seem like we’ve walked that far. It’s too short.” He glanced over at me, but I looked down. I didn’t want him to see me blush.
“It really doesn’t.” I agreed. The wind had picked up in the past five minutes, and it was whirling my waist-length hair into a frenzy. Great.

Chapter Seventeen (Part Two of However Many There Are)

“Hey, Niall?” I whispered, “I think I’m gonna walk home. I need a bit of fresh air.” As much as I wanted to ride back with the boys, I thought I needed some time to think about everything; today had been surreal. Plus, I wanted to give Beck some time alone with Harry without me there.
“You’re not walking home by yourself, love. It’s dark. How far is your flat from here?” He worried.
“Uhh, 10 or 15 blocks? It’s really not that far, Niall. I’ll be fine.” I tried to assure him, but he wouldn’t have it.
“Too far. I’m walking you home, and that’s final!” He said, crossing his arms and making a fake pouty face that looked remarkably like Becca’s.
I groaned. “Are you sure? How will you get home?”
“I’ll call the boys when I’m ready to leave.” He raised his eyebrows. “You have no excuses, babe.”
“Fine,” I groaned. Niall pulled me in for a hug.
“You’ll be safe with me.” He said gently.
He walked over to the car, where the others had already piled in. “Hey guys, I’m walking Addison home. I’ll call when I need to come home. Cool?”
“Did you ask Paul?” Liam said. Typical.
“Always the responsible one, aren’t you?” Niall rolled his eyes. “What Paul doesn’t know won’t hurt him. And if I find out that Paul knows, I’ll hurt you.” He gave them a smile.
“Fine,” Liam said.
“Just don’t stay all night!” Harry winked. He was sitting beside Becca, and his arm was around her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. “We have an interview tomorrow morning, remember?”
“I won’t,” Niall laughed.
“What about you, Beck?” I questioned, but Harry answered for her.
“I was thinking about heading back to my flat, grabbing my car, and showing her around the London night scene a bit. She told me you ladies hadn’t been here long, and I want her to get out some!” He smiled down at Becca, whose smile told me I’ll be fine, just don’t screw anything up with Niall.
We could read each other like that. It’s one of the many reasons we were best friends.
“Sounds good!” Rebecca and I said together, then giggled. “Jinx!” Again, in unison. I just gave up as Niall gave a little laugh.
“See you later, boys! And Becca, home by 3.” I tried to pull a serious face as I sternly pointed my finger at her.
“Yes, mom,” She rolled her eyes. I just laughed.
Niall and I jumped off the SUV’s running boards and waved as the car pulled off.
“Well, let’s go!” Niall grabbed my hand and started walking in the opposite direction from where I lived.

A Chance Encounter

Chapter 16

“Uhh…. Are you g-guys re-ready t-t-to order?” I felt bad for the girl who obviously had no idea what to do with herself.
Harry stepped forward. “Uhm, yeah. Hi,” He smiled at the girl, whose eyebrows raised so far up, they were hidden behind her little-girl bangs. “Can I have a chocolate cone, please?”
“Uhh s-s-s-sure,” the girl stammered, her hand wobbling as she wrote down the order.
“I’ll have a rainbow sherbert cup, babe.” Louis said, popping up beside Harry.
“A-a-alright,” her hand wobbled some more. She looked to Zayn, who was still reading the menu board.
“Peach in a cone, please.” Zayn mumbled. Peach? I had him pegged for rocky road or something that symbolized the roller coaster that is life.
“And I’ll have vanilla, in a cone, please.” Liam spoke up.
“Your go, love!” He said to me.
“Uhh, I’ll have a birthday cake in a cone please,” I said. “Beck?”
“Mint chocolate chip cup!” The girl wrote down Beck’s order with a more steady hand.
“And I’ll have the hot fudge sundae, please.” Niall said. It didn’t surprise me that he ordered a sundae while the rest of got simple things.
The girl giggled as she wrote down the order. “Is there a-a-anything else?” Her gaze shot back and forth between the boys, Beck, and me. She had no idea what to do with herself. Poor girl.
“Uhh, no. That’s it,” Harry said. I pulled out my wallet to grab some money, but Niall stopped me.
“I got it.” He said, wrapping a hand around my slender wrist.
“No, Niall,” I protested, trying to release myself from his grip.
“Yes, Addie. I got it. Alright?” I could tell by the look in his eyes that he really wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
“Fine,” I grumbled, shoving my wallet back into my bag.
“And I’ve got yours, too,” Niall told Becca.
“You sure?” Becca asked reluctantly.
“Definitely,” he replied. “But you boys are on your own!” He laughed as the other boys groaned and dug their wallets out.
“Thanks,” I told Niall as he laid his money down on the counter with the rest of the boys.
“Anytime, love.” He replied with a smile. The girl at the counter gathered up the money and put it in the register, handing Harry the change. Harry laughed and pocketed the money while everyone shouted at him.
While our order was being scooped, we all walked over to a huge round booth and scooted in; it was a miracle that all seven of us could fit. It was a tight fit, but we managed. I was squeezed between Niall and Beck, who looked extremely happy with herself because she was practically in Harry’s lap. Louis was on the outer edge of the booth, next to Harry. To my left, Liam was seated between Niall and Zayn, who was opposite Louis.
In the time it took us to slide into the round table, the girl had finished our orders and brought them to our table. She handed each order to Louis, who passed them around. He made sure to take a huge lick from Harry’s cone, which got a laugh from everyone except the waitress, who just stood there awkwardly holding the next ice cream.
When everyone finally had their treats, the table fell into a comfortable silence while everyone enjoyed them.
“Beck! Look over there!” I shouted suddenly and pointed towards the door. As she looked away, I grabbed her spoon and took a bite of her ice cream.
“Biitch!” She said when she turned back and caught me mid-bite. I started laughing, and before too long, everyone else at the table was cracking up too. About five minutes later, after the laughter had finally died down, I realized that I was leaning my head against Niall’s shoulder.
“Uhh… Sorry,” I mumbled, lifting my head up.
“It’s fine,” Niall smiled. I blushed and continued to devour my ice cream cone as Niall did a number on his sundae.
Suddenly, chills shot up my spine as a cold finger traced a pattern onto the back of my hand, which was underneath the table. I shot a questioning glance at Niall, who just grinned. I unclenched my hand, which had been balled into a fist, and turned it so my palm was face up. Niall took the hint and enveloped my hand in his. As he laced his fingers through the spaces between mine, I couldn’t help but notice that our hands fit together perfectly.

Haha, I think this chapter is longer than usual. I'll be writing all day tomorrow, so who knows how many chapters you'll get? ;D

Chapter Fifteen (Part Two): I Don’t Think I’m Gonna Do Titles Anymore..,

“What did he say?!” She practically screamed in my ear as I whirled around to face her.
I told her about his expression when I mentioned the caption, and I thought her pale green eyes were gonna fall out of her face.
“Oh my God,” she said. “Addison. That’s crazy. I think he--” we were interrupted by a small group of pretty girls who walked up to us shyly.
“Hi!” I said, plastering a smile on my face.
“Hi,” A platinum blonde in the front greeted me with a small smile and a surprisingly American accent. “I was wondering… Since you’re Niall’s new girlfriend and all, do you think we could get a picture with you?”
“Uhh… I’m not Niall’s girlfriend,” I said cautiously, trying not to say anything that might start a crazy(er) rumor.
“Are you sure?” The girl asked.
“Yeah. Pretty sure,” I replied.
“Well you wouldn’t guess it, the way you two look at each other. Oh well, can we still get a picture? Even though you’re not dating now, I have a feeling you will be soon,” She crossed her slim arms and looked at me.
“Haha, of course you can. And we’ll see about that dating thing.” The girl handed her Android phone to Becca, who had offered to take my picture with the group. The girls walked over and we posed for a few quick shots. I just hoped that I didn’t look too hideous.
“Thanks,” the girl said, taking her phone back and turning to face me once again. “Oh, and I have a question… If we gave you our Twitters, could you follow us?”
“You’re welcome! And sure, what are y’all’s usernames? ” I pulled out my iPhone and opened a new note, passing it around and letting them, type in their Twitters.
“Thank you!” The girls turned away. I noticed that the crowd was beginning to thin out a bit. Niall glanced at me and gave me a smile. I smiled back. With a black fine-tip Sharpie just dangling in his left hand, we held eye contact for a few seconds.
When I finally broke away from his warm gaze, I looked around to see Becca giving Harry a flirty wave, which he returned with his dimpled smile. Get it, Beck, I thought. Actually, the more I thought about it, the more I liked the two of them together. They were both cheeky with beautiful smiles and had dark curls. They both loved Ed Sheeran and liked to have a laugh.
I waggled my eyebrows at Beck, who snuck a quick look around to make sure no one was watching before flipping me off. I laughed, and she walked over to me.
“Looks like the fans are almost gone. We finally get our date,” she winked at me.
“This is not a date. We can’t think of it as a date,” I tried to tell her, but she wouldn’t have it. After about five minutes of arguing, I noticed that the room had gotten noticeably quieter. I checked around to see that Harry and Zayn were finishing off their last autographs/pictures, and Liam, Louis, and Zayn were gathered at the counter, pouring over the brightly colored menu board over their heads. Meanwhile, the teenaged girl working the register had a look of sheer awe on her face, like she couldn’t believe that One Direction was here at the same time she was. I found it a bit hilarious.
“Let’s go up there?” I questioned Rebecca.
“Duh,” She rolled her eyes and grabbed my hand. We walked up to the counter. Niall turned around, flashed us a braced grin. We heard the door chime as the last fans exited the shop. Zayn and Harry called a final goodbye then made their way up to the rest of us.
“Hi, Harry.” Rebecca flirted.
“Hi, love,” Harry smiled and pulled her in for a hug.
I stared at her with my mouth slightly open from shock. Becca can be an outgoing person when she wants to be, but that’s usually when we’re at home fangirling about the boys; most of the time, she was a bit reserved and shy. Yet here she was, obviously flirting with Harry. And he was flirting back.
