we carry things inside of us
that no one else can see
they hold us down like anchors
they drown us out at sea

i don't believe in the
nice guy. I think that everyone has a nice side, and a bad side. I believe that we all snap when we should be patient and say things without totally thinking them through. I believe that we all have the capability to be compassionate and giving and empathetic and everything in between. But I do not believe that by simply being communicative and candidly interested in someone you are automatically “one of the nice ones”. You don’t get to automatically label yourself as better or nicer than someone. You don’t get to use being a nice guy as a reason to attempt to push your way into someone’s life. You don’t get to cry “nice guy” when things don’t go your way and pout about not being chosen. And you don’t get to cast yourself as the hero in someone else’s story. Because you know what? They might not even be looking for a hero. I know I'm not. I'm my own hero.

And I've been cast astray.
I am an ocean. I am the sea.
There is a world living inside of me.
Lost in the abyss.
Drowned in the deep.
Not a set of lungs could salvage me.
Only a shipwreck, only a ghost.
Merely a graveyard of your former self.
We just watched the waves crash over.
And I've been cast astray.

Crucify me
and nail my hands to a wooden cross.
There is nothing above, there's nothing below.
Heaven and Hell lives in all of us.

The best thing in life is not sought out, but earnt

See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.
     — Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

I know life is hard, I think everyone knows that in their hearts, but why does it have to be cruel, as well? Why does it have to bite?

I HAVE A LIST IN MY HEAD OF
ALL THE FEELINGS I STILL
WANT TO FEEL BEFORE I DIE.
AND YOU HAVE TICKED SO
MANY THINGS OFF THAT LIST.
