Long, but worth the read.
Today, I went collecting on my paper route with my best friend, and
practically sister, Maria. We went to this old mans house, who
happened to be a smoker, and he was on a walker. It took him a
while to answer the door, and when he did he told us to come in so
he could give us our money. We walked into the kitchen and he sat
down, and as he was counting the quarters, he started talking about
drunk drivers, and how we should never become one. He told us that
a while ago, he got hit by a drunk driver. He handed us pictures,
and they were of his car after the accident. The drivers side of
the car was completely smashed in, and the frame of the car was
split in two. The driver had also hit another person, and the
driver was going around 70 miles an hour. He told us that it took
almost 40 minutes to get him out of the car, because his legs were
smashed into the dashboard. He said that the fireman that pulled
him out thought he was dead because there was blood all over the
pavement and tires, and he explained that was how they ruled out a
fatal car accident. The fireman finally pulled him out of the car
and got him on a strecther, thinking he was dead. (Also, the
fireman and the old man were good friends). The fireman went to the
hospital to finish his reports, and he came into the room where the
old man was, and the old man was alive. The doctors had said that
it was a miracle that he survived. The fireman asked him if he knew
what happened because they could not figure it out since all 3 cars
were facing the same way. The old man said he had never lost
conciousness. Now, the old man has to be on a walker because he
lost all feeling in his legs below his knees. He can move the
muscles with his brain, but he has to have the walker to make sure
his feet are functioning right. I thought he was like this because
he smoked, and there was something wrong with him.
Today, I learned that a bad
mistake, can ruin someone's life, and change it forever, and I
learned that I should not judge people, if I don't know the
condition that they are in.
