Storm Warning
Chapter 4

Another couple days past. I was slowly moving on from Devin.  Fortunately, he stopped calling and texting me- I had no intentions to listening to his bullcrap. It was around 12pm, and I was sitting on my bed staring at the ceiling. I swung my legs off my bed and walked downstairs, and out the back door. I sighed as I sat on the small yellow swing in out backyard. I don't even know why we kept it when we moved in. It rarely got used.
"Marisa?" I jumped alittle when i heard someone was near me. I took a sharp breath and looked up. Hunter was sitting on the platform to the slide, a notebook on his lap. Amusement lit up his blue eyes at my reaction, knowing he scared me.
"O-Oh, hi Hunter.." I stuttered, "What are you doing here?"
Hunter looked down at his notebook and back at me.
"Uh..you knoww..nothing." He said, blushing slightly. I stood and climbed up the slide next to him before answering.
"What's the notebook for?" I said curiously. Trying to catch a glimpse of the messy scribbles on the paper. He pulled the notebook up so i couldnt see it.
"Nothing..Just random stuff." He said, looking at me like there was a huge secret on the paper.
"Lemme see it!" I smiled, reaching out to take it from him. He picked it up over his head so i couldn't reach it again. I smirked alittle and held my face close to his. He looked at me with confusion. I playfully poked his side, and as i expected, Hunter dropped his hand to move mine. I grabbed the notebook from his hand and quickly slid down the slide.
"Hey!" Hunter chuckled, scrambling to slide down behind me. I ran as fast as I could across my backyard, which was a good size. I stopped when I thought I was safe, out of breath. I scanned over Hunter's writing- he doesn't have the best penmanship. I realized it was a song, the one he was singing in his room the other day.
"Marisa!!" I heard Hunter yell from behind me. I turned around too see Hunter running at me full speed. I yelped in surprise and spun around so my back faced him, and bent over the notebook. Hunter ran behind me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders, his hands scrambling to steal the notebook from me.
"Let me read it!!" I giggled.
"Noo, turn around!" He chuckled. He must not be too worried, because he's laughing.  I curled closer into myself and Hunter sighed, letting go of me. I stood straight and fixed my hair.
"Thank you." I smiled triumphantly. As I began to read the notebook again Hunter picked me up by my waist and lowered me to the grass. I squirmed under him as he tried to take the notebook again. Hunter smirked, putting his hands on my waist and squeezed my sides.  I screamed and threw the notebook to my side, hoping he would stop.
"Here here!! Take itt!!" I said between laughs. Hunter stepped off me and picked up the blue notebook, then taking my hand to help me up.
"You're no fun." I giggled, pushing his shoulder.
"I remember I always had to do that to make you do things for me." He said, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"You remember all that?" I said, my eyes widening in surprise.
He looked at me, puzzled.
"Of course I do. I loved you, remember?"

Chapter 4

I stared speechless at a familiar face - my boyfriend, sucking face with a girl I've never seen before. I felt my eyes tear a little but I blinked them away. I turned around quickly to see Hanna, just as speechless as I was, and Hunter looking at both of us confused.
"Scratch that Hanna. I don't have a boyfriend anymore." My voice wavered, but I tried to speak clearly, and loud enough for Devin to hear me. He pulled away from the girl and looked at me. Shock spread across his face, like a criminal that was just caught.
I stared at him, a small smirk on my face to cover that I wanted to cry.
"You're disgusting. And I was gonna move to California with you?!" I said, my voice filled with venom.  Devin looked at me, not answering. The girl he was kissing looked at me and to Devin.
Devin pushed the girl away and started walking towards me.
"Baby, this isn't what you think."   I scoffed, running a hand through my hair.
"You're kidding right? Then what is it? You killing a bug on her lips?! I can't believe you. We're done. Oh" I continued, looking behind Devin to the girl, "and have fun with him."  And with that, a spun on my heels and stormed back the way I came. Hanna quickly followed behind to comfort me.
"Do you want to leave? We can always come back.." Hanna said after a couple minutes of saying how I was too good for him, yadda yadda.
"Nah, let's do what we came here for." I said confidently, plastering a smile on my face. We shopped for a little over an hour. I kept noticing Hunter staring at me whenever I looked at him. He looked incredibly confused, but I wasn't about to explain my relationship to him.

Hanna dropped Hunter and I off at my house later. I said bye to her and walked into the house without a word. Why can't I just find one guy?! One guy that can make me happy without lies..

I ran into my room and fell on my bed. I tried my best to swallow the lump in my throat but it wouldn't go away. I felt tears spill from my eyes. Hunter walked into my room and looked at me like a little boy. I tried to stop crying when he came in but I couldn't.
Hunter walked over to me and sat on the bed. He wrapped his arms around me and I buried my face in his chest.  You have no idea how awkward it was crying to someone you had just seen for the first time in 2 years. Hunter sat quietly until I stopped crying. I looked up at him and giggled a little, embarrassed.
"I-I'm sorry. You're probably so weirded out."
Hunter smiled and moved a piece of hair from my face.
"Why would I be weirded out? Don't worry about it." I wiped my face and stood up.
                                                     .....
The next day I was in the worst of moods.  Hunter steered clear of me for most of the day, staying in his room. I sat in my room and tried to do some summer reading. I couldn't concentrate with Hunter singing in his room. The walls were incredibly thin in the house, you could hear anything.
I put my book down and listened to his voice. He really did have an awesome voice- with a cute country 'twang' to it.  I stopped myself from thinking any further about him. I just broke up with a guy for cheating on me for gods sake!
And as cute as Hunter is, he's a celebrity now. He can't be trusted to be committed to anything with so many girls around him.
I sat there and listened to him sing.

"But it's more than one and one makes two
Put aside the math and the logic of it
You gotta know you want it too
Cause I wanna wrap you up
Wanna kiss your lips
I wanna make you feel wanted"

Chapter 4

I huffed and followed him into the living room. I plopped onto the couch and Hunter walked upstairs. He came back downstairs 5 minutes later in a red plaid button- down and jeans. We sat in silence for a couple minutes until Hanna messaged me 'I'm here'.     I stood up and walked into the kitchen, where Hunter was pulling an apple out of the fridge.
"My mom is making me take you to the mall with me. Hanna is coming in 15 minutes, go get ready." I said coldly.
There is no need for me to babysit him. He's a stuck up country star now. He can get his people to show him around. I hadn't noticed before, but I think I feel anger towards him being so popular too. Popular people always annoyed me. Especially people who knew everyone loved them- & Hunter was one of them.
Hunter smirked at me and walked out of the kitchen, purpously bumping my shoulder as he said
  "Yes mommyyyyy."
I walked outside, Hunter following behind me. Hunter slid into the back seat and me in the passenger seat next to Hanna. She looked at Hunter in the back and then at me- confused. I realized that I hadn't told Hanna about Hunter coming with us.
"Oh- yeah. This is Hunter. My mom said he had to come with us." I explained. She looked at me, still puzzled. She looked at Hunter again and smiled.
"You're Hunter Hayes..aren't you?!" She asked, excited. I sighed, annoyed, looking out the window.
"That's me!" Hunter chuckled and shook Hanna's hand. She giggled like a fangirl and spun around, looking in her mirrors to pull out of my driveway.
"Reesey, you didn't tell me you were friends with HUNTER HAYES!" She beamed, glancing at me. I huffed and mumbled,
"Not exactly friends.."
Hunter must have heard me, because he laughed a little bit. The whole ride to the mall Hunter and Hanna talked about his career. Concert this, interview that, writes his own songs, blah blah blah. When we finally arrived I jumped out of the car, eager to start a new conversation. I don't feel like listening about Hunter's successful life all day.

We walked around the mall for awhile, occasionally some girls would recognize Hunter and run up to us, asking for pictures or autographs. Hunter would smile and agree. While watching him take a picture with a girl maybe 1-2 years younger than us, Hanna whispered to me.
"I can't believe you're friends with a celebrity!" She smiled at me, glancing at Hunter.
"He's nothing special. Just another jerk teen celeb." I said, annoyed with all of this.
"Are you kidding me? He's so sweet! You guys would make an adorable couple." She giggled.
 We used to be.
"Can we just go? Theres a store over there I wanna check out." I said quickly.  Hanna sighed and we began walking away from Hunter and his little fans. When I thought we lost him he ran up behind us and put his hands on my waist.
"Can't lose me that fast cutie." He laughed. Hanna looked at me, her mouth open like she was about to scream.
"Ohmygod you guys are soooooo cute!" She sqeaked. I looked at her, my cheeks turning red.
"Hanna. I have a boyfriend." I hissed, pulling Hunter's hands off of me and walking faster ahead of them.

I turned the corner and felt my stomach, along with my jaw, drop to the floor.

Chapter 4

The next morning I woke up crying. I had a terrible nightmare about my dad being killed in war. I sat up and stared straight ahead, trying to breath deep and calm myself. I wiped my cheeks and rolled off my bed to get dressed. I was planning on going out with my best friend, Hanna. She wanted to go shopping
for school.
I walked downstairs to see my mother and Ms. Hayes sitting at the kitchen table sipping coffee. My mother turned her head to look at me and smiled before bringing her mug to her lips.
"Hey sweetie, Ms. Hayes and I are going to go out for the day. It would be nice if you could stay around with Hunter. You guys can catch up." Ms. Hayes nodded in agreement.
Theres no catching up to do. He lied and left me for someone else. That's all.
I dont know why I felt this way towards Hunter. It was really just a silly summer fling as little sophomores. But for some reason I felt like my feelings at that time were much more serious about him than he knew of.
I realized I hadn't answered my mother, who was staring at me- confused.
I sighed and opened a cabinet, pulling out a box of cereal.
"I was planning to go out with Hanna to the mall today.." I said, stuffing my hand into the box of coco puffs and brought my hand to my mouth.
My mothers looked at me and to Ms. Hayes before answering.
"Why don't you take Hunter with you? You can show him around a little." She smiled, apparently proud of her idea. Again, Ms. Hayes nodded in agreement.
I gave my mom a quick "thanks alot" look, then faked a smile and said
"Sure."

My mom and Ms. Hayes left to go wherever, so I sat on the couch for a couple minutes, eating my cereal.
Around 11:00 I heard the floors creak above me. Hunter must be awake- finally. I heard him slump down the steps and he reached the bottom, turning the corner. I looked at him briefly, giggling at his spongebob  shorts, then returned to watching TV. Hunter rubbed his eyes and looked at me.
"What's so funny?" He said groggily. Something about that tone of voice made him sound really sexy.

No! Don't say that.

"Nothing..nothing.." I giggled again, looking up at him. His hair was a mess and he looked like he barely slept. He looked down at his clothes and back at me, blushing.  He covered it up and said "You know you love it." I smirked at him and continued watching TV. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the screen. It was Hanna. The text said: "Almost ready? I'm heading over now."

I sighed, annoyed that I had to take Hunter with me.

Chapter 3

I stared blankly at the two people looking at me. I opened my mouth and no sound came out. I finally forced myself to speak.
"Hunter..Ms Hayes..when did you get here?" I said slowly, looking back and forth at them. My mom spoke for them.
"Hunter has his last shows around here. I told them they could stay with us. I wanted it to be a surprise!" She smiled, looking at Ms Hayes. Hunter smiled at me, his smile was perfect..
No! I can't do that. Think of Devin..

Hunter stood up and walked over to me. I gave him an angry look as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders. The smell of his cologne filled my nose. I didn't hug him back, I just stood there as i remembered the last summer we spent together. How he just left two days after he told me. He promised he would come right back and we picked up where we left off. But of course- he got a girlfriend halfway through his tour and we stopped talking. I felt a wave of anger- or was it sadness, flow over me as I thought about it.
Hunter let go of me and looked back at our mothers.
"Marisa, Hunter will be sleeping in the extra room next to yours. Why don't you help him get situated?" My mom smiled at me, motioning for us to go upstairs.
"I'd rather go to school early.." I mumbled and headed upstairs, Hunter followed quietly behind me.
"You'd rather go back to school?..Harshh." Hunter chuckled to himself as we walk past my bedroom and into the extra room. I spread out my arms as if to present the room.
"Now if that's all you need I'm gonna go do..anything else.." I said, turning on my heels to walk out. Hunter grabbed my shoulder and made me turn around. His stunning blue eyes looked into mine and I felt the feelings I had that summer come back. I turned my head and gave him an annoyed look to cover it.
"What?" he giggled, "Not happy to see me?"
I breathed out and searched his face,
"You're a big boy. I'm sure you can figure it out." I snapped, turning again to walk out.

Chapter 2

The rest of the day was hot and uneventful, like it has been for the past week. Devin has only really been coming around when he wants to ask me about moving again. I do want to go with him, but I can't just leave my mom here alone. My dad is never around- hes a soldier stationed overseas. It's been hard without him.
The next day i rolled out of bed at 11:00 to my mother calling me from the kitchen.
"Risa! Can you take Lucy out for a walk?"
I groaned and put on some clothes. I looked at myself in my body- long mirror. I ran my hands through my long blonde hair and wiped my green eyes.
I walked outside, taking a deep breath of the North Carolina air. Lucy, my golden retriever puppy, anxiously pulled on her leash, jumping down the stone steps. She led me down many streets until we we about 6 blocks from my house, then I turned and headed home.
We were close enough to see my house, about 2 blocks away. I sang quietly to Hunter's song, walking to the beat. I swung open my front door and let Lucy inside. She began barking frantically in her little puppy voice and bounded to the kitchen. I heard my mom talking to someone, but I couldn't make out who it was. I slipped off my shoes and quietly walked towards the kitchen. Slowing down when I heard the voiced louder. I turned the corner and stopped immediately. I stared at the familiar face that i never thought I'd see again. But I couldn't decide if i was happy about it or not.

"Hey Marisa. Long time no see."

Storm Warning
Chapter 2

I listened to the rest of Hunter's song and turned the tv off. Thinking about Hunter put me in a bad mood, so I texted Devin. I invited him over to hang out for a little while before he goes to work. He got to my house about 20 minutes later and we went into my room.
"Babe, are you okay?" Devin asked me, turning to face me on my bed. I looked over to him and smiled a little.
"I Yeah..yeah. Why?" I stuttered, playing with the strings on his sweatshirt.
"You seem out of it.." He looked down at me, sounding concerned.
"Oh, it's nothing. Don't worry about it." I said quickly, avoiding his eyes. He moved his hands down my arm and squeezed my side, causing me to jump and squeal. Devin laughed at my reaction and put his hand on the back of my neck, pulling me closer to kiss him.
When we pulled away, he asked me the same thing he's been asking me for months.
"Soo...have you thought about moving to California with me at all?" He said, searching my face.
I gave him a desperate look and sighed.
"I-i don't know Devin. it's so far away. And I want to go to college close to home.." I said, standing up and pulling him with me. It was almost time for him to go to work.
"C'mon Reese, you can go to college in Cali. Your mom will survive without you...You don't even have to go to college ya know." He proceeded. I understand that I don't have to..that doesnt mean i dont want to.
"Yeah, but I want to. Just because you aren't going doesn't mean I can't." I reasoned. That came out a little meaner than I wanted it to. Devin looked down, disappointed.
"Alright, well just think about it. I gotta go. Love you babe." He said quickly, kissing my cheek and walking out to his car.
I flopped onto my bed and scrolled through facebook on my phone. I didn't really read anything though. I noticed my summer reading book on the other side of my bed and began thinking about my senior year. Senior Year. I can't believe I'm almost done with school. Then off to college- hopefully.

Storm Warning
Chapter 1

I looked out the window of my bedroom, tapping my pink fingernails on my work desk. I focused on a little raindrop that landed on the window and slowly slid to the bottom, eating anything in it's path.
I wish I could be like that- not literally, of course. But I wish I could just set my mind to something, and push through anything that tried to make me think otherwise. I want to college, stay near my mother,& get a job that will support me. Just because Devin thought it was a good idea for me to move to California with him doesn't mean I have too. Yeah, he was an awesome boyfriend, and he does anything I ask him to, but he's been pressuring me to move away with him for months now because he got a job there.
"Reese? Marisa!!" My mother called from the bottom of the stairs, pulling me from my thoughts.
"Yeah mom?!" I called, spinning towards my door.
"Turn on channel 53! Hunter is on TV!" She said excitedly. I sighed and flipped on my tv, mounted on the wall.
And of course, there he was- Hunter, hot new superstar. Blah blah blah. i listened to his new song for a couple seconds.

"She rolled in from the west in her summer sun dress, Hotter than the heat in july. With her windblown hair it just wasn’t fair the way she was blowing my mind. Have you ever noticed every hurricane gets its name from a girl like this
Shes a beautiful miss, ya the kind you love to love but what happens next
gotta feeling when the sun comes up Im gonna wish I had a storm warning, gonna wish I had a sign..."

I was pulled back into my mind mid-song. Whatever happened to Hunter and I? It was 2 years ago, the summer of sophomore year.

"Hunter!" I giggled, running behind him, holding his hand tight. "Where are we going?"   Hunter smiled at me and ran faster, pulling me farther into the Virginia forest- where I used to live. Hunter stopped after a while, huffing as he let go of my hand.
"Hunter Hayes," I laughed, out of breath, "you...are..crazy." He looked up at me with his soft blue eyes, stepping closer towards me.
"If you mean crazy about you, then yes." He chuckled, gently taking both my hands again. He took a deep breath, and I could see his eyes change, like he was sad.
"What's wrong?" I asked him, squeezing his hands, nervously smiling.
 "I uhhh..umm..I-"
"Just spit it out Hunter."   He looked at me like a puppy and bit his lip.
"Okay..okay. I'm uhh..I'm leaving." He dragged his words, his jaw tightening.
"What do you mean..leaving? We still have the whole summer to spend together.." I said quickly. Hunter looked at our intertwined hands and back at me.
"I'm going on tour..for a year.."

And just like that- he was gone.
