I think that you should have just told your friend about it right then and there. If you guys aren't absolute best friends, I'd go to the party with your other friends. But if this girl means a lot to you, and is your best friend no matter what, you need to think about where your loyalty lies. Also, be careful if you start liking him. She seems really angry and upset about being tossed aside, so you're treading on thin water.

This emotional trauma you have is related to PTSD which is post traumatic stress disorder, so basically when things similar or relative to a traumatic event, you will freak out. Unfortunately, situations like this take years of therapy of self esteem, self assurance, and self reliability training to overcome. The best thing that you can do for yourself is the one thing you don't want to do- telling your parents or a trusted adult. He wont kill you. Those are threats to keep you quiet. And he can't kill you if he's in jail.

Alright, so, sorry but for some reason when I go to comment on your profile, it wont let me? That may be a layout coding issue. So what ever it is, I'm just going to comment here.
Maybe there's nothing you CAN do until she's comfortable with sharing it. And oh, I didn't know that you were one of us O . O Aha I wouldn't have said all of that. It just gets annoying when people find out that there friends self harm and they don't know what to do and it's like, , you don't DO anything. But that's different now since you also have hurt yourself that she knows.

Coming from someone who has self harmed, attempted suicide, and dealt with depression most of her life- honestly, there's not much you can do. What helps is not laughing at it. Also, it helps to stop pretending like you understand what she's going through. Instead of trying to connect her problems to your problems or anyone elses problems, try to understand that what she's going through doesn't seem normal to her. The only thing you really can do is to listen to her when she needs to talk, and encourage her to talk, and tell her that you don't mind, and that it doesn't feel like she's complaining to you. Understand that you will never be able to relate to this. That's about it.
