people have the right to state what they believe, regardless on whether they're "right" or "wrong". it's his opinion, and he doesn't deserve to be bashed for it, whether it be about gay marriage or whether or not he likes nutella.
he wasn't hurting anyone by saying it. i think it was great that he put up this quote and was honest. i'm not saying i agree, and maybe posting this quote caused controversy, but it IS his opinion.
