I just don't understand.

that cliché story;
come on, you know we've all been through it.
we all have that boy that we couldn't imagine life without,
but he doesn't seem to notice.
we straighten our hair, & just try to beauty ourselves up as much as possible,
all in the hopes of impressing him.
but then our hearts get shattered,
when we see him flirting, let alone just being with that other girl,
the prettier, more popular,
the one that looks like she doesn't even have to try.
& then we fake a smile, pretend nothing ever hurt us,
trying to hold ourselves together.
i just don't understand
why it has to be so difficult.
i just don't understand what he wants.
i still try as hard as i can to be myself, but apparently,
that's not good enough.
