My Crazy Coincidence

I read over my new texts.
My dad wasn't very concerned about my well-being, seeing as
I've done this once before
but I had showed up right before dawn broke the next morning.
"You okay? Where ya been?
I was going to take you out at the diner this morning but you
weren't at your penthouse." I
rolled my eyes at all the lies in that one text message.
"Mom's been freaking out! Where are you
Abby?! I really hope you're okay." My brother was the
sweetest thing I've ever known. The best
thing in my life at the time.. besides Harry. "Where the
f*ck are you? I almost called the cops
after your a//hole father came knocking, seeing where you
were." Now I wanted to throw
my phone at the wall, throw my life away. Disappear. My stupid,
unloving, uncaring druggie
mother, I hated her. She did care about me, a lot in fact. But
she was so cruel at showing
her emotion that she just made me so mad in her expressions.
"Urgg." My face felt read and
steamed. "Wowowow, calm down. Don't let your blood
boil." I knew Harry was just joking
around to make me feel better, but this wasn't the time. I
cracked. "Just leave, okay? I don't
need you anymore. Thanks for your help and all but
GOODBYE!" I waved at the air like I was
swatting a fly. I regretted it immediately after. Harry stood
up, smoothing out the red cushion
he had been sitting on. "Well.. erm.. my number is erm..
in your phone if um you need it."
He ran his long, bony fingers through his hair. Why did I just
blow him off like that?
I needed him here, with me. I didn't actually want
him to leave.

it's so long but I needed to build up to suspense with her
mom.

I was scared the next morning. I had awoken in the hospital,
with some curly-haired stranger
sitting near my bedside. "Who are you?" I called out,
my hangover giving me a massive headache.
"I'm Harry." He said with such an innocent, sweet
look I could almost melt. "Mind telling me who
you are, miss?" I questioned. "You don't
know?" I was still very confused. At that moment
the nurse walked in with a tray full of tools meant for poking
and proding. "Oh you're awake! Won't
be needing these anymore." She pointed at the tools with a
chuckle. I sunk back into my pillow so
maybe she would catch up on the fact that I was not amused in
the slighest bit. I just wanted to
know what had happened to me last night. "Honey, we need
to know your name." The nurse grabbed
my wrist and knelt down as if I was on my death bed. "Um..
I think it's.. It's Abby. Yeah, Abby." I
furrowed
my eyebrows at me almost not remembering my name. Was this
situation that serious? "Last name too." The nurse
picked up a clipboard off the wall and began to jot things down
as I spoke to her. "Abby
Dunnavant, I live in New York City. Where are we now?" I
looked around the room as to give myself
at least a clue. "You're in New Jersey.." Harry
responded. I shot straight up in bed, cracking my back in
the process. "How did I get all the way to New
Jersey?!" I exclaimed. The nurse laid me back
down
so I wouldn't hurt myself anymore. "Let me tell you
the story--" Harry was cut off. "I'll be leaving,
I'm
Mrs. Jacklin if you need anything else. Or you can just press
the button on the wall behind you."
Mrs. Jacklin, the nurse, walked out letting Harry to finish his
story. "Anyways.. I was just driving along on my way out
of New York State, and I saw you walking along the road,
looking like a zombie of some sort.
I pulled up along side you and asked if you were alright. Your
eyes were closed and right after my question, you had no
hesitation of falling to the ground. I quickly jumped out of my
car and put you into
the back seat. It was about 1:00 A.M. and I had to be in New
Jersey by 7:30 A.M. so I just drove on
into N.J. and brought you to this hospital. And another thing..
I told them that I was your brother. I didn't
want to have to worry your parents about you being in the
hospital." My mouth was wide open in shock
as I tried to recall my actions from last night. I was with
Josh and we got a little.. drunk. But I had
no recollection of any other events that may have occured. I
knew Josh was a bad influence. But I
could just never stay away from him, and I didn't know why.
Now I understood. He wasn't capable
of keeping people safe or watching over them, if he had let me
just walk into the woods like that. What
if I had been attacked by someone or something? What if I broke
something or hurt myself? What would
have happened if Harry hadn't found me? I owe my life to
this newly found friend, I realized.
"Thank you. Thank you, so much." I randomly started
bawling out the words. Harry came over and
gave me a long hug. "So you remember what happened last
night?" He asked into my ear, still
embracing our hug. We released as I said, "Well, not
exactly." I got into the whole story of Josh and our
"wild party" last night. "Oh.. so you have
someone in your life.." He had a depressed look on his
face,
almost as if he wanted to be mine. "Not anymore." I
crossed my arms and pouted. I had to get back to
New York a.s.a.p. before someone actually realized I was gone.
"Do you happen to know where my phone is?" I felt
around in the drawers next to my bed but couldn't find
anything. Harry whipped out of his
back pocket what happened to be my phone. "Thank the lord.
I hope you didn't read anything." I gave
him a weak smile, but he looked away blushing. My phone read
'11 New Text Messages, 3 Missed Calls,
1 Voicemail.'
Some from Kristen, my Dad, my brother.. and my
Mom.

I called out Josh's name again to hear no response, just
dark silence. Great. Just great.
I walked around blindly for what seemed like half an hour until
I ran into what felt like a couch.
I sat down for less than a couple seconds before I heard a
second body crash on the couch
next to me. I made my hand into a tight fist and swung.
"Ow!" screamed a familiar voice.
"Why the hell did you shut the doors and scare me like
that, a//hole?" I started to giggle
and play punch him. "Sorry babe, I just wanted to get you
pumped up for tonight!" He
said with a casual yet sly grin. "Who else is here?"
I said, looking around though it was
still pitch black in the gigantic building. Josh clapped his
hands and the bright illuminating
lights slowly turned on. Squinting, I looked around to see no
one. "Just you, me, and history."
Josh added with a wink, making this all too good to be true.
"Yeah what a 'party' this is."
I joked around, me being my sarcastic self. Josh smirked and
walked to the opposite side of the room,
opening a large grey cooler filled with Coors light beers. I
cringed at the sight of beer. I didn't
want to end up getting drunk by the end of the night, because
in all honesty, I didn't trust
Josh all too much with my safety. He bent down, picked up a
glass bottle and threw it towards me.
I screamed after I just nearly caught the bottle. 'Good
throw.' I said in my head.
~~
The whole night, we sat around on the various couches and
chairs, watched some movies
on the old TV Josh had brought, made out.. a lot, and got
a bit drunk.
By the time I left, I couldn't see straight.
My walking was off balance and my
breath smelled of alcohol. I was in no condition to drive
home
but it's not like I took even a split second to think about
what could've happened to me if I did
because after that, I couldn't remember
anything.

"No, Kristen, I can't hang out tonight, sorry. I'm
going to Josh's wild party he's
having."
Kristen had been my best friend since 2nd grade, and we did
everything together, but
she was definitely not the partying type. "Don't get
too drunk, k?" She made me promise.
I hung up the phone as my thoughts floated off to Josh. Oh,
Josh. He was so perfect.
His hair flowed just right, his teeth as white as pearls. The
"thing" we shared was so innocent,
yet so dirty at the same time. I thought more as I combed out
the knots in my hair with my fingers.
I made sure to look extra good tonight, just so maybe Josh
would find more interest in me.
I slipped into a blue and white striped dress, adding a brown
leather belt to complete the look.
I threw on some blue sandals and an anchor necklace. The dress
was very skimpy, nothing my
mother would have ever approved of. My mother.. she was gone
now. Out of my life.
Not that she was dead, it's just I had run away from home
when I was halfway through
my first year of high school, and I haven't talked to my
mom since. She just never
understood me the way I had wanted her to. I felt bad leaving
home, me being only 15 and
leaving my poor 12-year-old brother Johnny to suffer with my
mother and her depression.
But it's not like I could've taken him with me. My
father is one of the wealthiest men I know,
a billionaire, you could say. But there's a problem with
him. My father hated relationships.
He owned a dozen Mercedes-Benz companies and always had to be
on top of the game.
One night he and my mother were out drinking at the same club
and ended up.. ya know.
Then came me. He never stayed with my mom though, nor cared for
me. Her mom
kicked her out of the house when she found out my mother was
pregnant, with only
my father's money supporting her. A couple years later, my
father came crawling back
begging for forgiveness. Then my brother came, and the same
story happened all over again.
Even though I knew my father was an a//hole, he was the only
support system I had,
and he felt horrible knowing I was living alone, and that he
had never cared for me.
He supplied money to let me live in a gigantic penthouse in New
York City. He payed
for me to go to college at CUNY, a New York university. I was
basically forced to love him.
About an hour later, around 8:30 P.M., I grabbed my clutch and
my phone and rushed out
the door. ~~ I rolled the top down in my BMW, just to be
classy. Josh would like this.
I arrived at the party, which was being thrown at an abandoned
warehouse in
the middle of nowhere, New York state. I slid open the giant
warehouse doors. "Josh?"
I called out. The warehouse was pitch black. I took a couple
steps into the building
as I heard the large metal doors slam shut and lock behind
me.
"Oh, sh*t." I whispered.

I woke up in the hospital.
I couldn't remember anything. What am I doing here? I
thought. Where's my mom, my dad?
Even, how did I get here? I rubbed my blurred eyes and looked
around the room. I had various
tubes and wires stuck into me, and I started to feel
faint.
That's when I saw him.
He was sitting quietly in the corner, his curls falling to the
side of his face. He smiled gently.
If I had had enough strength, I would've screamed. But I
didn't.
"Glad to see you're awake. & healthy." The
stranger gave off an odd feeling that I couldn't
desribe.
Maybe it was a slight memory, but my brain couldn't grasp
onto it long enough.
"I don't even remember anything. What happened? Who
are you?"
So many questions ran through my mind, so many waited
for answers.
