homerun
part #38
pat and i
took the elevator down the escalator, to the main floor, where
the cafeteria was. he grabbed my hand securely as we walked
down the hallway. when we got there, it was deserted, only
except for the short cashier who was reading a magazine.
his eyes brightened as we walked in. he looked around our
age, but he didn't go to our school.
"how may i help you?" he asked, i think it was pointed
more towards me.
"do you have pizza or a burger?" i asked.
"i threw everything out a while ago, but it won't take me
too long to make something. what do you want?" he asked,
turning red.
" do you have pizza?" i asked
"yea, but i'll have to make the whole pie." he said
"that's perfect!" i said, looking up at pat.
"you'll eat some, right?" i asked. i heard his stomach
growl a little.
"can you put on a burger too?" i asked. "would
that be too much?"
"no not at all. just give me about 10
minutes."
"are you gonna want anything else?" he asked.
"do you have anything sweet?" i asked.
"your looking at him." he said.
"hah" i chuckled. "like a cookie or
something?" i asked
"chocolate chip or sugar?" he asked
"2 chocolate chips, one sugar, please." delaney's
probably starving. i thought.
before i even reached into my purse, pat was throwing a 20 on the
counter.
"sorry dude, its $27.50." he said, almost in a mean
way.
"here you go." i said, offering a ten. "you
can keep the change."
"thanks, " he said, blushing. he handed me the cookies
in a bag."the rest will be about 10 minutes."
"is it okay if we come back?" i asked.
"no problem." he said. pat grabbed my hand,
and we walked out.we cut down a hallway and out to the cutest
gazebo ever. you wouldn't even guess it was next to a
hospital , the way it was lit with a bunch of lights. it
was completely empty. pat walked forward and sat down, and
patted his laps. i eased my weight gently, and he was
grabbing something out of his jeans' pocket.
"dev, remember i promised i would get you something that you
would always remember me with?" he asked.
"yea.." i said trailing off. "why?" i
asked
"well, i noticed your wrist was bare, so i got you
this." he said, showing me a pandora box.
"pat, when did you get this?" i asked shocked.
the only place that sold pandora was mykinos, and i was there
today.
"i got it when you were out on your lunch break.
that's why i had blake take you out." he said, with a
sly smile. "are you gonna open it?" he asked.
he placed the box on my laps, so i picked it up, and started to
open it.
"ashley helped me with the size, and she said you liked this
charm."
as he said this, i pulled out a silver charm bracelet with 2
heart charms on it, one an amethyst stone in it, on
the front, and the other with a blue stone in
it, on its front. i think it was sapphire, because his
birthday was in september. they were connected in the middle with
a silver band.
"pat." i said, getting teary.
"wait, i worked up a mushy speech for this one. don't
cry until you've heard it." he said.
"i picked this one out because, see that heart?" he
asked, pointing to the amethyst one. "yea, that ones your
heart, because your always wearing your heart on your sleeve,
well on your wrist in this case, but it's as solid as a rock, and
i did amethyst because that's your birthstone." the tears
started to spill over.
"and, see this one?" he asked, whispering in my ear and
pointing to the sapphire one. "well that's my heart,
because sapphire's my gemstone, and just like my real heart, it's
all yours now."
"pat." i began, crying all over him. "it's
beautiful. thank you soo much. you have to be the
best, most romantic boyfriend ever." i said, wiping my tears
from under my eyes.
"i have one more thing to add to my speech." he
said
"what could you possibly add to top that?" i asked. as
he closed the clasp of my bracelet on my wrist. he
then looked me in the eyes and held me two hands with a firm
grip.
"i love you." he said and leaned in to kiss me.
"i love you too." i said as i wrapped my hand around
his neck and kissed him right back.
