My eyes
water when I see Liza grab him, I know what is coming. But
then right as her lips touch his, Ace pushes her away. He comes
back over to my side. "Listen Liza, I know that I could hang
out with you and the other popular girls, but I never will. Nor
will I ever love you because I don't even like you. I have
always been, and will always be hopelessly in love with a girl I
call Zandria, full name Alexandria Wish Lamonte." Liza is
fuming. But me, well I am beaming. I knew that Ace would come
through he always did.
"And I am hopelessly in love with you too Ace, full name Casey Lucas Demontague" I replied. Liza stormed away, her cheeks fiery red with embarrassment. Everyone had been watching our drama unfold. Ace and I looked at each other and hugged. While hugging I realized he was shaking uncontrollably, worried I looked up to see my one true love laughing hysterically. I couldn't help it, when he smiles I smile, when he laughs I laugh, I too began cracking up.
"You are horrible Ace, you just crushed a girl and you are now laughing hysterically!" I said still laughing so that it was obvious I didn't really care. "But you love me like crazy cakes Zandria and you know it". I couldn't argue so I simply shrugged my shoulders.
The rest of the day went relatively smoothly though Liza stared daggers at me all day.I wanted so badly to go tell her off. But Ace knew me all together too well. "Don't do it Zandria, there is no need to rub it in her face that you have the love of your life already and that she will probably live alone with forty seven cats for the remainder of her life, as a bitter old woman." I couldn't argue, he was right. He always is.
I couldn't have been happier when the bell rang that day. Ace and I sprinted to our lockers which were also right next to each other. We stuffed our bags as quickly as possible and holding hands ran for the doors. We got on the bus, and sat next to each other. Ace on the inside, leaning against the window, and me in the aisle seat. Just like we always had sat, my head resting on his shoulder, and one of our shared Ipod's buds in each of our ears, fingers intertwined. No one bothered us when we sat like that, and it was as comfortable as anything.
At dinner Auntie Lyssa asked us how school was, and yes I still called her Auntie Lyssa. Ace and I shared a glance, signaling that the truth was for us to know and us only. Mom and Auntie Lyssa didn't notice. "The usual, you know classes lockers, always together" I said. We were sitting at the table like we always did, Ace and I holding hands under the table. "That's good!" mom and Auntie Lyssa said simultaneously. They had believed us.
Our bedtime routine began as usual. We each went to say goodnight to our mothers, then we met in the hall. "Always remember and never forget, Ace loves Zandria" he began. "Always remember and never forget, Zandria loves Ace." I continued the ritual. But then, instead of kissing my cheek Ace gently lifted my chin, kissing me full on the lips. This was the first time we had really kissed. Sparks were flying behind my closed eyes and my cheeks were on fire. "Wow" we both whispered when we had come up for air. Then we continued our routine, we hugged and he whispered in my ear, "And someday we will get married because I will love you always and forever".
We smiled at each other again, and parted each to our own bedrooms, only to replay the kiss in our heads over and over until sleep came.
