Kinda long, but worth it
:)
Today, it was my
grandpa's 90th birthday.
Naturally, we would have
a party.
So I am at the party with my aunts and uncles,
the van from my grandfather's nursing home shows up.
We all smile and clap when he is wheeled out of the
van.
He has
Alzheimers.
We get into my
uncle's house and we start the party.
Everyone is talking and having fun, then we eat dinner.
Grandpa asks for a beer and he gets one.
Usually he doesn't talk much, he just listens to everyone
else.
We have a big family, so all the realtives that live across the
country were calling him.
Talking to him over the phone, and he loved it.
You could see it in his
smile.
He's
lonely at the nurisng home.
So this was a big deal for
him.
We lit the candles, and
me and my sister walked it over to him.
"Make a wish!!"
everyone
said.
"Ready? One, two,
three!!"
Me and my older sister
helped blow out the candles.
His face was so filled with joy, i was
almost in tears.
I haven't seen him
like this in the longest time.
Everyone eats the cake and gets talking again, and more fun
starts.
But then, the
saddest time comes.
Grandpa has to leave.
He was having such a
great time, but now it has to come to an end.
We wheel him outside to the van, and Fred, the guy who works with
the van system,
loads my grandfather up.
As Grandpa is getting strapped in, his happy face fills with
sadness.
He starts sighing heavily.
Then he sounds as though he's about to cry.
He's so lonely at the
nursing home.
I see tears start to run
down his cheeks.
I'm so touched.
My Grandfather had such
a great time, he didn't want to leave.
Everyone could see it, he didn't want to go back.
Everyone rushes close to
the van so we could comfort him.
My Aunt Nancy decides to
go back in the passenger seat of the van,
just to make sure
he's alright.
Even though my
grandfather may not remember all of us,
it's touching that he would love his party so much, he would
be sad if he had to leave.
I cried too.
Everyone there cried at
the sight of him being miserable already.
But it will be alright.
Don't worry Papa.
You're in our
prayers.
true
story.
