Everyone Lies
Chapter Four
I finally knew everyone in our grade by
November. I mean, I didn't know them, but I knew who
they were. Life stayed pretty boring. People began to
know me as the freakishly smart girl, which sucked. I didn't
want to be that girl, but I still wanted to do well in school,
because I didn't even know what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I was actually thinking about that one day in study hall, and Rain
and I were talking about it when Chelsea came up.
"Isn't Jimmy Ramsey just the hottest boy you've ever
seen?" she breathed as she sat down. I had to agree, he
was pretty hot, but I still had eyes on the hottie in my spanish
class. He talked to me during that study hall about our test.
"Well? Isn't he?" she asked again.
Rain and I both mumbled yes. I was really confused. How could Joey
like Chelsea? It seemed like all she talked about was Jimmy
Ramsey. And she always said how Jimmy didn't like her,
but he did. I could tell. He looked at her all the time. I
was secretly a little bit jealous of her because a sophomore showed
an interest in her.
"Whatever. He hates me, anyways," she said.
The bell rang and it was time for lunch. I dropped off my bag
at my locker and headed outside to walk to the cafeteria. I
didn't see anyone to walk with, except Joey, so I walked a
little faster to catch up to him.
"Hey Joey," I said.
"Hey Ritchie. How do you think you did on the physics
test?"
"Um, I don't really know, probably not very
good."
"Hahaha, way to lie. Everyone knows you have a 101 average in
his class," he said jokingly but seriously at the same time.
He looked down at his feet. "You're really
something."
I blushed and looked away. I must be imagining it. Why would
he like me? He's dating Chelsea.
"No, I'm nothing special. Not one bit."
He laughed then brushed my tangled hair behind my ear. I
glanced around to make sure no one was watching. There was no
one behind us, and then a few people way ahead of us. I didn't
want to start drama.
"You know that Chelsea is obsessed with Jimmy Ramsey,
right?" I said, then swore in my head for potentially starting
drama.
He laughed. "Yeah. What about it?"
"Well, it's just that it gets on my nerves when she talks
about him, ya know? I can't imagine how it must be for
you."
"Yeah, she can be a handful." That's all he said.
The rest of the walk we didn't say much, and when we got to the
cafeteria, I went and sat with Rain while he went to sit with
Chelsea.
"Hey," Rain said as I sat down.
"What's up?" I asked.
"You know how the school dance is coming up?"
I nodded.
"Do you want to come over before and get ready?" she
asked.
"Yeah, definitely."
Seriously guys, I want feedback. I know it's kind of boring so
far, but really, tell me what you think! I love constructive
criticism!!
