FINAL CHAPTER~
I looked over at Blake as he opened the door for me. I could
hear the music blasting out of the gym. He led me inside and it
was completely transformed. It looked like a high end club. I
glanced at him and he led me to the dance floor. As soon as we
started to dance, the music stopped. I gave him a confused
look, and I heard the principal’s raspy voice echo
through the room.
“Will the following candidates for Prom King and Queen step up: Alicia Lopez, Kendra Landers, and Marie White” I realized I had been holding my breath, I let it out. Saddened that I hadn’t been elected as a candidate for prom queen. Blake reached for my hand and gave me a comforting smile. I knew I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. Who was I to be prom queen? That was an honor on this school. Why would little old me get it?
“And the candidates for Prom King please step up: Brandon Johnson, Jason Cook, Aaron Smith, and Blake Collins.” I turned to Blake and smiled at him. He walked up to the stage and stood next to everyone else. One of the teachers walked up to the principal and whispered something in her ear.
“Carlee? Oh, Carlee Manning is also a candidate for Prom Queen.” My eyes lit up and I felt my face flush. I made my way towards the stage. My heart was pounding. I glanced at Blake, he wore a reassuring smile.
“And Prom King and Queen are Carlee Manning and Blake Collins!” My eyes widened. Before I knew it I was ushered off the stage for the slow dance.
We swayed slowly back and forth.
The song was just instrumental music, so I made up words.
“Hold me, take the stress away. Free me, as I fade away. Don’t know if you can feel it to.. I’m in love with you.”
“I can feel it, I love you too.” He smiled. His face softened a bit and became more serious.
“Where were you today? Did you visit her grave?”
“I can’t tell you where I was it’s a secret. And I promised not to tell. It’s a Secret Promise.” I smiled.
“You have a lot of those don’t you?”
“Yeah, but this one’s special.” I leaned
in and kissed him passionately. It was perfect. Finally my life
was normal. Finally, I can be me.
