Chapter 19

Jake's POV
 
 
Me and Hazel walk into the apartment that's on the way to Wal*Mart, since it's unlocked. Inside there is a bunch of Japanese people. We all just stand there, awkwardly. I finally say,
"Uhh, is this apartment for rent?" They all shake their heads no.
"Okay," Hazel says, "I guess we'll leave now... Come on, Jake."
We walk out of the house, as soon as we get in my car we both almost DIE of laughter. After about 45 seconds of laughter I drive home. Guess we aren't living there.
When we get home, Hazel decides to call her mom. 
We're up in my room and Hazel is sitting on my lap and the phone is on speaker.
"Hello?" Alice says.
"Hi, Mom. How are you?" 
Alice sighs and says, "Tired. I miss you, Haze." 
"I miss you, too, Mom. Could me and Jake come over for a little bit?" 
I look at Hazel with a confused face. 
Alice replies, "Sure, honey. Come over as soon as you can." 
Hazel says, "Okay, we'll head over there now. Bye, Mom.. Love you." And hangs up.
Hazel stands up, and grabs for my hand. I just sit there.
Hazel says,
"Will you take me to my mom's house?" I nod, and she says,
"Then let's go?" I nod again and get up.

*20 Minutes Later*

Hazel and I are in Alice's living room. Eating cookies. Hazel says,
"Momma, where's Jed?"
Tears spring out of Alice's eyes.
Hazel goes and sits by Alice and puts her arm around her.
"Mom, what's wrong?"
Alice sighs and says,
"Jed broke up with me. He blamed me for Austin's death."
My jaw drops.
"NO!" Hazel says, "Mommy, it's not your fault."
I go over to Alice and Hazel and hug them both.
