I slammed the door to my house and ran out
into the pouring rain.
We lived on the beach front so the beach
was basically my back yard.
I made it a few feet before I collapsed on
the sand.
Sadness and grief washing over
me.
I just pushed him
away.
I did it because I didn’t want him
to get hurt.
The only person that was allowed to get
hurt was me.
I sat up and wrapped my arms around
myself. Rain drops mixed in with my tears and ran down my
cheeks.
“Wow. She’s so important even
the weather cries when she does.”
I turned around as far as my sitting
position would go.
The girl with the strawberry blonde hair
stood before me.
Her hair stuck to her face and her eyes
were narrowed.
“What’s that supposed to
mean?” I asked and stood up.
“Don’t play games with
me,” She rolled her eyes. “I know what kind of person
you are.”
“What kind of person am I?” I
asked quietly.
“You’re loved. Everyone loves
you. And you love that, that feeling of being wanted. You have a
perfect life.” She shrugged.
“You don’t know what
you’re talking about.” I shook my head and looked
away.
“I don’t?! You came here, and
you were accepted. I’ve never seen Trish want to befriend
someone so fast.”
“What does that have to do with
anything?” I replied.
This girl had no idea how wrong she
was.
“It has to do with everything! Do
you have any idea how long it took for them to even talk to me?
Then you show up and it’s so easy for
you…”
That’s
it…
I jumped up and walked toward
her.
“My life is not as nice as it
looks.” I said loudly.
“Yeah, okay.” She said
sarcastically.
“How could you just stand there and
judge me like that?”
“Because I’m jealous of
you!” She said finally.
My mouth fell
open.
Jealous? Me of all
people?
“Oh, so you want a mom
who’s in rehab and a dad who’s dead? You want people
to look at you like you’re the grim reaper because your dad
killed someone in the same accident that killed him? You want to
be in love and then have to give it all up just to keep him safe?
You want to be on some psycho’s kill list, having to look
over your shoulder every five
minutes?"
“I-I…” Her eyes were
wide with surprise and a little fear.
“Yeah. That’s what I
thought.”
