Beautiful Summer #107
Our flight was at 12:30, we got to
the airport around 10:30 for check in. Ryan never said much on
the car ride there, nothing but,"I'm sorry." He
didn't say anything in the airport terminal, except when he
shook his head yes to me asking if he wanted a drink. When I
called my father to tell him we were coming home he didn't
seem shocked or suprised all he responded with was,"I'll
pick you up at 4:45 and bring you back to the house?"
Nothing made sense to me anymore. Ryan sat quietly in the chair
next to me tapping his thumbs on the legs of his pants. "NOW
BOARDING FLIGHT 94 TO MASSACHUSETTS." He stopped
tapping.
"Thats us babe." I said
standing up. He held his hand out to me like a little kid. His
eyes still had fear in them. He was afraid. He needed me to
"protect him from the bad." I laced my fingers into
his, tightly. He smiled slightly as I practically dragged him to
the boarding area. I just wanted to be home. Snuggled into my
bed, warm. And before I knew it I would be. I took the window
seat and Ryan laid his head on my shoulder.
"Sorry I ruined everything Hail." He said playing with
my fingers
"Ryan, you
didn't ruin anything." I said smiling and squeezing his
hand,"Everything is just fine. We will be
fine."
"This week was supposed to be
perfect for us. It was just supposed to be a get away for you and
I. I really messed it all up Hailey, sorry."
"You don't get it do you? Having you here is more than
enough for me. In the last 48 hours I have felt safer than I have
in the last few months. Knowing for a fact that you wouldn't
be shot or step on a bomb today, how can you be sorry for that?
You made it home to me, thats all I asked." I said wiping
the tears. I could tell by the look in his eyes he really meant
it, but he was quickly inturrupted by a flight attendent
instructing us on how to survive if our plane happened to crash.
We both drifted off into a deep sleep, awoken by the buisness men
trying to remove their luggage from the area above our
heads.
"Home sweet home." Ryan smiled as he took my hand and
led me off the plane. He seemed more comfortable. My dad
was at bagagge claim waiting for us. He welcome me home with a
big hug and for Ryan a very firm handshake and a steady deep
voiced,"Welcome home." Ryan just grinned and
exclaimed,"Thank you sir."
The car ride back to the house couldn't have felt any longer.
The sweet salty hair lingered in my nose. It was almost sunset, I
would've loved to stay up and watch it. But I knew Ryan was
tired, and I wanted to spend every second I could with
him.
I wanted to make our last 5 days seem like eternity.
I wanted to let him know, I would always love him. No matter
what.
