When working on self-reflection and renewing yourself to be a
better person, make sure you are not analyzing and mirroring
other people’s social behaviors, but taking a look at
yourself.
If you observe others, you are influenced by them. You need to
constantly remind yourself who YOU are. The beauty of a
sociable person is the unique natural truth in their personality.
No matter what that truth may be. People can see if someone is
truthful or not easily. People want to be friends with someone who
isn’t fake or wanna-beish because they know that they can
always trust them.
A person true to their personality is confident (not necessarily
loud, but confident). They are stable and don’t run after
anyone but themselves. They know exactly what they want and what
their own opinions and judgments mean. They aren’t phased or
brainwashed by anyone else because they have their own reasoning.
These people aren’t scared to be themselves because when they
are confident, they are respected. When they are respected, they
have friends.
To be seen as someone who is stable and confident,
they must think before they speak. This is among
many other things that help them gain confidence, however chewing
their words is crucial. They’re always one step ahead of
everyone else. They gather information before making up their own
opinion, because when they realize what the want to say it’s
sensible and is valid. They listen, process, and are seen by
society as intelligent, thoughtful leaders. These people know what
is the best way to do something for themselves because they take
the time to think about it. “Before you speak, think -
Is it necessary? Is it true? Is it kind? Will it hurt anyone? Will
it improve on the silence?” - Sri Sathya Sai Baba
When you are in any social situation, remember to think outside
yourself. Don’t lock yourself up in your own little head. To
do that, the biggest factor is sleep. Getting enough sleep
is crucial for your presence, awareness and your
general alertness. That will aid you with social issues naturally
without even thinking about it.
Lastly, after you find a couple people you like, be proactive. Make
plans to go see a movie or hang out at the mall. Find fun
activities you can do so people can get to know you better outside
of school. Remember to be natural and relaxed. Have fun.
