Chapter Ten
Miracle's POV:

"Miracle Ryan Payne." I tried to hide the proud smirk that was erupting upon my lips as I climbed the short staircase that lead to the stage. My school's superintendent, Dr. Jacobs, held my high school dipolma on his left hand while his right was extended towards me. I stretched all ten of my fingers out to him, eager to hold my very own diploma in my hands. "Good job, my dear. Well done." Dr. Jacobs muttered to me as he firmly shook my hand and sent me on my way.
I stared at my feet, admiring the white thongs that sheltered them, as I tip toed down the stairs that were on the opposite side of the stage. Once my feet had touched the soft grass of my high school football field, my head darted up and my eyes impatiently searching for a familiar face. I already ruled out looking for my family; they were all seated in the set of bleachers behind the stage and were engulfed by hundreds of people. Although scanning the faces of my senior class that sat before me in fold-up party chairs was a pretty hard task too, I just need a smile from a friend, giving this feeling some reassurance; did I really just graduate high school?
I made my way back to my chair, unsuccessful in finding somebody in the crowd. If I gave it a few minutes, I'd see them up on stage; Styles, Tomlinson, and Williams were all names that followed mine. My mind began to wander now that I was sitting alone, my thoughts relaxing a little bit. What was this future going to hold for me? I had applied to a handful of colleges to please my parents, but even when, and if, I hear back from them, I have no idea what I would major in. Music? Not good enough. Teaching? Not my thing. Medicine? Please.
"Parker Evan Styles." My blue eyes caught the young man in blue walking up to recieve his diploma with his sister in white following close behind. "Darcy Anee Styles." Darcy trotted Dr. Jacobs, letting her tall, black heels scuff the stage. She was so giddy and excited, she could hardly contain it.
I sat up a little straighter, in high hopes that Parker or Darcy would notice me on the stride back to their chairs. Parker's eyes looked about the senior body and suddenly found my eyes. His smiled glistened in my direction as he tossed his fist to the air, gripping the diploma tightly. I knew exactly what he was trying to communicate to me: We were free.
"Zachary Austin Tomlinson." My ears grew attentive as my boyfriend's name rung through them; he must've slipped my mind. Oops. Quickly putting the thought of Parker aside, I forced my hands together and let a little scream pass my lips, letting everyone know how proud I was of Zac. He immediately caught my eye and shouted at the top of his lungs how much he loved me. Everyone 'ooh'-ed and 'ahh'-ed at us as my cheeks flushed pink.
I was so wrapped up in my constant thoughts, I must've missed Autumn's name being called and I felt a little bad. I'd feel real bad about missing it when we were all talking about it at the party later. Dr. Jacobs instructed us to stand in unison just before releasing us from our high school bonds. "May I present to you, this year's graduating class. Congratulations, Seniors!" And with that, all of our caps came off and took flight into the infant, summer sky.
Just like Parker said earlier, we were now free. I was now free from these halls and classrooms and peers. I was completely free now. It's not that I minded being here, I know I'd miss it once I turned the page and started my new life; it's just I felt trapped and stuck here. I needed to start the next chapter, but what is that?
"Mir!" A cool breeze caught inside my now unzipped graduation gown, revieling my purple Jack Wills dress. Parker came running at me, arms wide open welcoming me into a hug. Just like the breeze, Parker's large hands found their way inside my graduation gown so he could easliy wrap his arms around my thin waist. He picked me up and spun me around, leaving me screaming for him to let me down. He submitted to my request and set me on my feet, but not letting up on his grip. My nose nuzzled itself into the crook of his neck, taking in his scent that I knew so well. "Free." His lips tickled my ear as he repeated to the word to me.
With a deep sigh, I gave into him and chanted softly into his skin, "Free."

People will tell you never to compare yourself to another. Yet life itself is a constant comparison. Without comparing we wouldn't know what is right or wrong, good or bad.
You know those butterflies I thought I got for you?
Man I had the flu that day
