"I've never seen you
take a chance in your life." Her best friend said.
That was before. Before she threw
herself into love so it wouldn't slip through her fingers.
Before she fell so madly, deeply in love with him. Before all
of the nights spent on the worn beige couch in the living room
with the lights turned down low, and the tv playing romantic
comedies on endless repeats while they snuggled close. Before
winter descended, and they walked through the streets by only
the light of neighbor yards, and their joyful smiles. Before
they kissed away the entirety of spring, watching the world
come to life together.
It was all before he left,
packing all of his bags, and going back to the other place he
belonged, and taking half of her heart with him. And really,
what good was half a heart? But she couldn't say any of
this--she didn't. She just smiled tightly, and said,
"I know."
