Imagine living with someone for 22 years. Every day, not a second apart. You have been with her through every moment she has ever encountered. You have seen her at her best and at her worst. You know everything about her and can usually predict what she will do next. She is not only someone you want in your life, but someone that you need. Of course you have your friends but they really don’t know you like she does. She can fix all of your problems and make you happier than anything else on the planet. You are not yourself without her. Sometimes, when something or someone new comes along, you tend to forget about and ignore her. It makes her really upset because she only has you and nobody else. And at the end of each day, she is all you have too. You two have fought many times about this and always seem to make up. But as time goes on new, exciting people and things come along, and the abandonment grows to become a habit. She tries to hold on but you grow hostile towards her for trying to tell you what is right all the time. You ignore her more and more until it seems as though you really only spend minutes, if that, of quality time together anymore. She becomes lonely and quiet and doesn’t want to be around you much anymore either. Not even when you need her the most. Your problems seem to add up instead of disappear like they used to. You need her and she is no longer there. Your life is empty and incomplete and you feel like the most terrible thing that exists on this planet because it is your fault that you forced her away. This is what it is like to lose yourself. Once you lose you, you lose everything. Don’t ever lose yourself.
