There
is no point treating a depressed person as though she were just
feeling sad, saying, There now, hang on, you’ll get over
it. Sadness is more or less like a head cold– with
patience, it passes. Depression is like
cancer.
I
understand you, and I shall not attempt to make you change your
mind… I have told you what I think, and that is all. I
shall remain your friend even if you act contrary to my
convictions, and I shall help you even if I disagree with
you.
I
am a sponge for the emotions and energy of others. When spirits
are high, my state of mind is calm and untroubled, like a wave
rolling gently in to the shore, but surround me with anger or
sadness, and like a ship in a storm, my mood sinks like a
stone.
