Our job is to love
people. When it hurts. When it’s awkward. When it’s
uncool and embarrassing. Our job is to stand together, to carry
the burdens of one another and to meet each other in our
questions.
Things that
shouldn’t offend you: profanity, the opinions of others,
people who smoke and drink. Things that should offend you:
poverty, drone strikes, famine, daughters being bought and
sold.
I
think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach children
anything, and by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of
getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc.
Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a
nuclear explosion to a firecracker.
Some
people say home is where you come from. But I think it’s
a place you need to find, like it’s scattered and you
pick pieces of it up along the way.
