I cannot believe I'm leaving New York City for Maine. My Mom is
ridiculous. Why would I, Kaia Wilson, want to go to a camp for
the summer in Maine? I could be spending my time buying stuff
from China Town, walking around Central Park, and going to Yankee
games. At least I have my bestfriend with me, Tori Mayson. My Mom
agreed to have someone that I know come with me. I tapped my
manicured nails against my phone as we approached the camp's
entrance. Camp Boulder Lake. Awesome? I sighed and looked at
Tori, who was sitting in the backseat. She rolled her eyes. She
didn't want to do this either, but I begged her to come with me
and agreed after a week of convincing.
"Aren't you girls excited?" My Mom asked.
"Ecstatic." I spit out.
"I'm sure you girls will have fun."
"Please Mom, I'm not twelve. I don't go to stupid summer
camps."
"You know this is for high school students."
"Immature high school students." I said inaudiable, but
of course she somehow heard me.
"Exactly why I'm sending you here, not you Tori." She
smiled into the rearview mirror at Tori, and Tori smiled back at
her politely.
"I can't believe you're doing this to me." I told her
as she parked the car behind an SUV. Me and Tori opened our
car doors and were greeted by a girl with terrible
nail beds and bad split ends. She was wearing a bright neon
shirt and had a wide grin on her face.
"Hi, welcome to Camp Boulder Lake!"
"Hey." I said. She needed a makeover
badly.
"Names please?" She said still grinning.
"Kaia Wilson." I faced her with my hands on my
hips.
"Cabin 13. And you?" She asked Tori.
"Tori Mayson."
"Cabin 13 as well. Enjoy your stay here!" She nodded
and walked away to attend to another car.
"You should so love me for making me come here." Tori
said as we went to the trunk. My Mom popped it open, and we
pulled our Coach suitcases out. Our flowy floral tops and white
jean shorts were dressy compared to what everyone else was
wearing. This was going to be a long summer.
