CHAPTER SEVENTEEN ~ HOME
Part
One
Kate's
Point of View
"You know
how I made up my mind to come back, though?" Alex asked. We
were sitting outside on the swing set I've had since I was
little. It was almost three o'clock in the morning, and Alex
and I had been up for two hours talking, and catching up. Nate was
asleep on the grass, and it was nice to finally be alone.
"How?" I asked, stopping my swing. "I heard this
song. It was so amazing, because it reminded me so much of you for
two reasons. One was that it said your name, and two was that I
couldn't imagine anyone else holding you, either. So I decided
I had to come back and get you, before anyone else could." I
smiled, "Aw. That's so sweet. What song?" He shook
his head. "I can't remember the name... one of my friends
in England was playing it. It went: 'Katie, don't cry, I
know you're trying your hardest, and the hardest part is
letting go of the nights we shared' and that's what caught
my attention. But then it said: 'You're all that I hoped
I'd find in every single way, and everything I could give is
everything you couldn't take, 'cause nothing feels like
home, you're a thousand miles away, and the hardest part of
living is just taking breaths to stay.' I don't know, I
wish I could remember the title." I smiled and said, "I
know the title. It's 'Miserable at Best' by Mayday
Parade. My brother used to play it all the time, and I've
always thought it was so sad." He nodded. "It is a sad
song. Kind of depressing, actually. But it's what really made
up my mind. I knew I wouldn't be able to take the pain if you
found another guy." He paused and then he said, "I think
we should go home." I took his hand. "Yeah. It will good
to be home again, with you. I missed you so much." He squeezed
my hand and I closed my eyes. "What's wrong?" he
asked, concerned. "I'm tired," I yawned. He pulled
out his phone and told me, "It's almost three- thirty. I
had no idea it was that late." He wrapped his arm around me
and pulled me off the swing. "Time for bed," he sang. He
pulled us both down on the ground and wrapped me up in his arms.
Even though we were laying on the dry July grass, and I was
absolutely exhausted, I had never felt more at home in my whole
entire life.
I know it's
short, sorry. The next part will be better, I promise! I just
didn't want to leave you hanging until tomorrow
