I had talked to my father since I left 3 months ago, so I was able to sneak back into my house and get my stuff. My father had said my mother is really bitter, but he feels no need to abandon me. I had picked out what I thought was the perfect meet the parents outfit- a dress with no cleavage, heels and subtle jewelry. We were going to a very nice restaurant, Alex was wearing a suit, so I felt I was dressed to match. I had held him off until April to meet his parents, but I finally gave in. "They aren't going to hate you, trust me, they will love you. Just like I do." He kissed me, then wrapped his arms around me. "You look amazing. Maybe we should just stay here and.." he rose his eyebrows up and down and smiled. I laughed, and shook my head. He had also been wanting to take our relationship to the next level recently, but I hadn't wanted to. I was a virgin, so once we made love I didn't know if it would put a strain on our relationship. "You have been begging me for weeks to do this, we can't back out now. And we have to go before we are late. I don't want to be late the first time meeting your parents." I ducked under his arms and walked towards the door. "Are you driving, or am I?" "I am, defintely. If we pulled up and my mom saw you driving she would wring my neck." He took the keys from me. Alex was brought up to be the perfect gentleman, but also in a specific roles household. The man made the money and the woman stayed home to be a housewife. But unlike my mother, Emily had 3 children to take care of.We held hands in the car, it was really nice. It was a little chilly outside since it was still mid April, I shivered when I stepped out of the car. Alex came around to my door and wrapped his arm around me. "Are you ready?" he asked, smiling. "They are going to love you.""Well, I hope so," I said grabbing his hand. We walked up to the resteraunt and Alex spotted his parents instantly. We walked over to the table and sat down. "Mom, Dad, I would like you to meet Mia. Mia, these are my parents, Jeremy and Emily Walsh.""Well it's great to finally meet you young lady," Jeremy gave me a hug since we were seated next to each other. We were sitting at a square table so I squeezed Emily's hand over the table top."It's nice to meet you dear." She said, and offered a half smile. They both came from old money and probably critized my every move, it intimidated me. "It's nice to meet you both. It's unfortunate we haven't met before now, but I have been really busy with school." "Ah, that's right. I remember Alex telling us you were still in school. When do you graduate?" Emily asked me. "I graduate this June, the 10th. But I'm done with school as of May 30th so I only have about a month left.""What are you doing after that?" Jeremy asked me, and the questions went on and on. What my father did for work, was I really an only child. How that was growing up getting everything I wanted but a companion to feel my pain from my parents. Maybe I wouldn't have been so pressured for achievement if I wasn't the only child of the family. Alex jumped in from time to time, so I could eat some of my dinner instead of talking the whole time. Eventually they were satisfied with my answers and turned on to Alex. It turns out Alex's father Jeremy was a very funny man. He had me doubled over laughing at some of the stories of Alex's childhood. His mother, Emily very rarely spoke, and when she did speak to me she seemed very cold. Almost like she disapproved of me in some way."So Alex, when are you leaving for school?" His mother asked, towards the end of dinner. I was confused, Alex told me he was going to the local university. What is she talking about? I looked up at Alex, and he looked very nervous. "Uh...Mum I'm not going to Yale anymore. I wanna go to Charleston, and be a teacher." His mother looked outraged, "What do you mean you aren't going to Yale! Jeremey, do you know about this?" She looked at him. "Um, yes darling I did. Alex told me a couple weeks ago, and I told him as long as he was doing what he wanted it was fine with me." Seeing a heated argument coming on, I excused myself to the bathroom. Alex gave me a sad look, I'm sure he was hoping I would stay and maybe it would help the situation. When I came back from the bathroom, Alex looked very uncofortable, and Emily looked very flushed. I figured it would be a good time to leave. "It was nice to meet you Mia, if," she seemed to put a little too much emphasis on the "if" I looked to Alex to see if he noticed and he jumped in, cutting him mother off mid sentence. "Don't worry mother, you will see Mia and I next week at the wedding." "Oh good, you are bringing Mia to the wedding? Good, Carly can meet her." His father said, taking Emily's arm. "It was nice to meet you Mia, I know Emily and I look forward to seeing you again." He nodded at me, and pulled Emily towards the car. She gave me a death look before following her husband. "That, was awful." Alex looked at me, and I nodded in agreement. That was horrible, I don't understand why she doesn't like me.
My Not So Perfect Life- chapter 19 "I am so incredibly sorry. That was awful, I don't know what my mother was thinking! She has never treated anyone like that, ever. It blows my mind that she treated you that way! I'm really really sorry Mia." I kicked off my heels, and looked at him. We were home now, in our bedroom, so I let a few tears fall. I couldn't stay here. I wasn't wanted anywhere. My mother doesn't love me, his mother doesn't like me, I had no where to go. "Woah, why are you crying? Lovey, don't cry." He walked over and wrapped his arms around me. He was a lot taller than me, so my head rested on his chest. I let it all out. "I can't stay here. I have no where to go. Your mother doesn't like me, my mother doesn't like me. No one likes me and I don't know what to do anymore. I try my best but no one appreciates it." "I like you, I like you a lot. You aren't leaving, and I appreciate how hard you try. No one has to like you but yourself. And me of course, since we are living together." He softly laughed at his joke, I weakly smiled up at him. "I'll talk to my mother, before we go to the wedding next weekend. I will put her in her place." He looked at me with a determined face and I laughed. "Weeelll...if I have the same courage talking to you as I do to her." We laughed together, I felt a ton better. Alex had that affect on me, he always said the right thing. "Who's getting married again?" I said, changing into my pajamas. "My sister," Alex called from the bedroom. I didn't feel comfortable changing in front of him yet. He had no problem changing in front of me though. "Elena, the oldest one. I'm the baby. It goes Elena, Nicole, and then me. Elena lives in New York City, she's marrying some rich business owner guy, but she's really happy with him. She's a designer, she has her own line of clothes. Nicole, is already married, she's 22 and lives in a more rural part of New York, about an hour away from here. She's a kindergarten teacher and her husband works in law. Then there is Alex, who is not only the baby but the only boy in his family besides his dad. He graduated from high school a year early, lives on his own and works as a mechanic. He plans to become a ninth grade English teacher, and go to the local university. His girlfriend, is still a senior at Valley high school, and is graduating in about a month. She is very cute, and he loves her very much even if she doesn't believe him." I laughed and crawled into bed next to him. "They live in Charleston, in a pretty yellow house where Mia plans to spend the rest of her life in, with or without Alex." I said, and laughed, and he gave me a face but laughed also. "Not funny! If we break up you are leaving my friend, because I am the one who bought this house!" He tickled my stomach, "Whatcha gonna do now? Huh? Shrimp!" He said, tickling me more. I wasn't strong enough to fight him off, and he knew it. "Okay! Okay! I'll change it!" He stopped, and I gasped for air and laughed again. "Okay, so Mia plans to spend the rest of her life in the yellow house," "So Alex plans to spend the rest of his life with her." he cut me off and finished, then planted a kiss on my lips. "Sounds perfect to me!" I said, snuggling closer to him. He wrapped his arms around me and we cuddled like that until we fell asleep.

"Kelsey?" I called. She wasn't quite awake yet. Suddenly, doctors came rushing in, telling me I had to wait outside. I did, for a few hours. One of the doctors finally came out saying, "I understand that you're Kelsey's friend, Aaron?" "Yes," I whispered. He bit his lip. "She woke up, she's fine, but I'm afraid she has long term memory loss." "Are you serious?" I almost shouted. "I'm afraid so." I didn't meet his gaze. I couldn't. I wasn't going to say anything, so he spoke again. "You can go see her if you want, but she doesn't remember anything, not even her mom." I walked in, trembling in horror. I saw her. She looked helpless as she slept. I waited a few hours, until I saw her eyes opening gently again. I expected doctors to run in, rushing me out. Instead, she looked me straight in the eyes, and whispered, "I don't know you, but I like your eyes."
