Chapter Ten:
Cornered.
♥
Alissa
slipped into her seat in the corner of her Science class
unnoticed. Being completely new to this high school, Ally had to
ask for directions three times to find this class again. And
added to that, she was trying exceptionally hard to avoid
Ryan.
Class passed by unusually quickly. Alissa was gathering up all
the papers on her desk when Hailey called her.
"Hey Ally," she lead her posse over.
"Hey guys," Ally said, trying not to meet their eyes.
Something seemed wrong, although that paranoia had been following
Ally around since morning anyway. After her unanswered encounter
with Ryan last night, she really didn't want to talk to
anyone.
"Um.." Hailey said, although it sounded as if she had
no trouble remembering what she wanted to say, "I hate to
say this. Riley?"
The girl named Riley stepped forward. Ally was vaguely reminded
of a group of soldiers.
"Well, Alissa, we just noticed that well,
you're pretty close to Ryan. Aren't you?" Riley
said.
"Uh, no..?" Ally wasn't exactly sure
where they were going with this, "Why?"
"Nothing. Just that, if you are getting close
to him; I suggest you don't." Riley said.
"Why?"Ally asked again.
"Adrienne - you remember Adrienne, don't you? - dated
him for a while. He's a lying little cheat. Broke her poor
little heart just like that," Riley snapped her
fingers.
Ally couldn't believe her ears. Sure, right now she
wasn't on the best of terms with him, but she still liked
him.
"He doesn't seem like that.." Ally said, then
immediately realized how stupid it sounded.
"Well, thats how he gets you to fall for him. Trust me,
he's probably already searching for a girl to cheat on you
with." Riley said matter-of-factly.
"I'm sorry, Riley. I just don't believe you.
I've barely known him for 24 hours," Ally admitted, with
a slight twinge of annoyance. She turned to go when another voice
stole her attention.
"Do you even know what he said yesterday?" the voice
said, colored with concern. Then in answer to Ally's
questioning glance, she said, "Kaitlyn."
"What did he say?" Ally asked. She didn't like this
whole thing going on. She couldn't make out if these girls
were trying to help her or hurt her.
"I heard him say to Michael that he was sure you were a
virgin, and vulnerable enough for him to change that. He was
going to try to get close and friendly with you in the
meantime," Kaitlyn explained.
Ally turned and ran. Her stomach churned violently, and her head
was pounding so hard she couldn't make out her own thoughts.
A few people jumped out of the way, but she didn't notice;
her vision was blurred by her unbidded tears. Finally she came to
an empty classroom, and fell into the corner desk.
In the silence that continued, she could hear her heart
shatter.
