He stopped at the door and looked down at the scrubs we had snatched from a closet, considering Tanner had no clothing around. "Yeah, err, if that's alright with you.." I smiled and nodded. "Let's go." "First," he started, looking hesitant, "One of the wolf downsides is that I change in the winter or whenever its cold.. so.." "I'll warm the car up and bring it closer than." I said. He nodded and smiled, "Thanks, Melody." "No problem," I smiled and pushed through the door, immediately flinching at the cold. I turned to look over my shoulder at Tanner who was backing away from the door with wide eyes. I let the door shut and ran out to my car. I unlocked it and opened the door. I shivered and took a glance at the hospital, seeing Tanner standing in the lit glass doorway. I sat in the front and shoved the key into the ignition, and turning on the heat. I waited there for a few moments, until the car actually started getting warm. Then, I backed out of the parking spot and pulled up by the door. I pushed open the passenger's seat door and watched as tanner burst through the door, racing to the car. He jumped in and shut the door quickly, practically pushing me over. "Fun, eh?" I laughed. He was shivering though. "There's a blanket in the backseat. You can use it." I told him as we pulled away. He leaned back and grabbed the blanket, pulling it tightly around himself. He looked sick. "Sorry," he apologized. "I just don't want you to see me change.." "I get it, it's cool." I told him. I kept my eyes on the road. "Direct me to your house?" Tanner nodded and jerked his chin forward. "Just go straight." "'Kay." Everything had gone silent between us. It gave me time to think. So I was the stormy-eyed girl? I was this kid's favorite memory? I hadn't realized I'd been smiling until Tanner said, "What's with the smile?" I blinked and looked over at him, "Smile?" "You were just smiling.." He gazed at me from his sad, yellow eyes. "Oh, just thinking.." I smiled and he rolled his eyes. "You were thinking earlier. What are you thinking 'bout?" I raised my eyebrow and slowed to a stop at a red light. Then, I turned to him. "So.. I'm your favorite memory?" I felt another smile tugging at my lips. His pale cheeks flushed with color and he shyly smiled. It was weird to see a shy smile on his face that looked so serious. "Ooh, someone has a crush." I laughed and he stayed quiet. Soon, Tanner pointed out a house on the side of the road. I nodded and pulled into the driveway. He sat for a few moments, staring warily outside. "I can help you," I said. Tanner sighed. "Everybody's out being wolves." "That is so strange to hear." I told him, quietly. "Yeah, but you'll get used to it at some point." He replied. "Some point?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. "I'll probably never see you again." "Who knows? Maybe you'll see me as a wolf or in the summer." He grinned and threw the blanket into the back seat. "I'll- uh, I'll see you some other time then?" I asked, unsure. "Yeah," He smiled. And then, Tanner did the most unthinkable thing. He. Kissed. Me. I was so startled at first, that I didn't do anything about it. And then, I leaned into the kiss. But almost right then, Tanner pulled away. I stared at him and he pushed open the door, and raced up to the door. Once he was inside, he looked out his window at me. - Behind Yellow Eyes PPPPChapter Seven I couldn't stop thinking about him. Tanner. My thoughts revolved around him. I couldn't sleep. It was dark out, the dark you get when you're in the middle of a field with stars and moon. The house was eery, but it was slightly comforting. I took a few steps out into the hall, hearing the floorboards creaking under my feet. I tried to stampede quietly down the stairs and made my way into the kitchen. I hugged myself and gazed out the window, eager to see the familiar yellow eyes. But they weren't there. And then it dawned on me that he wouldn't be there, because he's a human. Human. Werewolf. It sounds so strange. Wrong, almost. But so right. I wanted to hold the wolf, in the human body. And he kissed me, too. That can't happen. But it was so good. I could still smell him. I could still taste him, and feel his lips. They were so soft. I felt addicted now. He was a drug. My drug. I settled it with myself, then. I ran into my bedroom, and pulled off my boxer shorts, and pulled on a pair of jeans and slipped my feet into socks and Vans. I pulled a Lifeguard sweatshirt over my head and ran back into the kitchen. I didn't care if I woke my parents up. They didn't pay attention to me, anyway. I picked up my keys that jingled against each other and picked up my phone. I raced out of the house and into my black 200 Limited. I had to see Tanner again. I had to talk to him. I had to. TANNER'S POV "Why did you tell her, Tanner?" Ryan was giving me a look that said he didn't know what to say. "She kind of.. knew, I guess. She guessed." I told him, quietly. "How did she guess though? It isn't easy to guess." I stayed quiet, and soon, Ryan knew. "She's the girl that you always showed us when you were missing, right?" I nodded. He let out a sigh, "I think the rest should know in case she outs us." I leapt to my feet. "She wouldn't do that! Melody's not like that.." I felt like I had to defend her. I hardly knew her but I felt like I had known her for years. I could smell her before I heard her knock. Ryan could too, because he froze and stared out into the hall. Her car engine shut off and then there were rushed footsteps, a knock, and her fast breath. I stood still for a moment. Should I? I looked over at Ryan and he shook his head as he turned away. I raced down the hall and turned towards the front door. I opened the door and peered out. There she was. Blonde, gray eyed. I felt a slow smile appearing on my face and her lips turned up. I opened the door a little further and waved her in. She obliged and came in, shivering. Then, she looked at me. "I need to know everything about you. I can't sleep. My mind keeps wandering off to you and the wolves in the woods." I shuffled my feet awkwardly. "Lets go sit in the living room. It will take a lot of time to explain everything." I wasn't going to say anything, so he spoke again. "You can go see her if you want, but she doesn't remember anything, not even her mom." I walked in, trembling in horror. I saw her. She looked helpless as she slept. I waited a few hours, until I saw her eyes opening gently again. I expected doctors to run in, rushing me out. Instead, she looked me straight in the eyes, and whispered, "I don't know you, but I like your eyes."
