- Secrecy Chapter One I walked into school, careful as to not attract more attention than I’m sure my purple hair already did. The faint and idiosyncratic squeak of my Converse turned enough heads for my hyperventilation, and therefore the daily routine of my existence, to commence. My self-consiousness was taking over my life at an astounding rate, and there was merely one person keeping me alive at that point. As usual, my breathing problems went unnoticed and I continued quietly to locker. My glorious locker. The only place in school I got to hide my face for a long period of time. I often wished I could just crawl into my locker and never come out again. Maybe I would find Narnia. Or at least somewhere far away from crappy Connecticut. “Vi,” Kay said, “You gotta stop smoking in here. They’re gonna catch you.” I pretended to be wildly interested in her long, delicate metacarpals popping back and forth as she wrote in black lipstick on the bathroom mirror, rather than responding to her gentle scolding. That was Kay, always gentle, but powerful. She was beautiful. “They never catch me, as long as I stand next to the vent. And besides, do you really want to talk about rule-breaking, Miss Vandal?” I almost melted as a deviant smile spread across her face and her eyebrow arched so mischievously and so high that her eyebrow ring glistened in the gleam of the crappy, flickering bathroom light. Kay was the better of my two friends. She was my best friend, and I loved her in that way, but for me, there was something more. I watched longingly as her slender arm moved deftly up and down and her art unfolded. Her jet black hair occasionally fell in front of her enchanting blue eyes but she abruptly blew it away so she could continue to focus on her lipstick masterpiece. She was wearing the black sleeveless Misfits shirt I had gotten her for her birthday over a black mesh long-sleeve shirt; I was entranced in the patches of ivory skin that were visible through the little holes. I envied that she was so skinny that she could fit comfortably in a cross-legged position on the sink. My eyes uncontrollably looked her up and down over and over again until I noticed that her stud belt was caught on the faucet, and she was about to get down. I decided to save the day. (More or less.) “Oh, Kay,” I reached and unhooked the black metal belt from the grimy faucet and hesitated when I realized where my hand was. I subtly glanced downward and felt my knees buckle. The button of her skinny jeans glistened in the flickering bathroom light and her zipper was halfway down from sitting cross-legged for so long. I was so close to- “Aw, thanks, Vi.” She patted my shoulder. I nodded and shot her a sincere half-grin, simply because I was too shaken up to do anything else. She coughed wretchedly and I immediately jumped into paramedic mode. “You alright??” I inquired urgently. “Put that damn cigarette out, you’re killing me,” she said with a playful grin, but I felt horrible. She flowed out the bathroom door as the bell rang and I was left standing in the crappy bathroom that felt ten times more amazing with Kay’s masterpiece staring back at me. I held back tears as I directed my gaze back to the door Kay had just walked out of. “Parting is such sweet sorrow,” I muttered under my breath, and trudged out the door, brain full of confusion, frustration, and genuine, unconditional love. really short, i know. sorry guys, but i'm tired (: i hope you guys like it though. tell me what you think! not my format.

If it wasn't for me, wanting to play basketball with her, she wouldn't be going through this. It was already four days, and she hasn't woken up. On the fifth day, I saw her eyes gently open. "Kelsey?" I called. She wasn't quite awake yet. Suddenly, doctors came rushing in, telling me I had to wait outside. I did, for a few hours. One of the doctors finally came out saying, "I understand that you're Kelsey's friend, Aaron?" "Yes," I whispered. He bit his lip. "She woke up, she's fine, but I'm afraid she has long term memory loss." "Are you serious?" I almost shouted. "I'm afraid so." I didn't meet his gaze. I couldn't. I wasn't going to say anything, so he spoke again. "You can go see her if you want, but she doesn't remember anything, not even her mom." I walked in, trembling in horror. I saw her. She looked helpless as she slept. I waited a few hours, until I saw her eyes opening gently again. I expected doctors to run in, rushing me out. Instead, she looked me straight in the eyes, and whispered, "I don't know you, but I like your eyes."
