Bubbly
chapter

"Caleb, I can't wear
THAT!" I sighed.
"Why not?" He looked confused, holding up
a t-shirt and jeans.
"Because," I teased him, "I wnat to look
special!"
"Then what are you planning on wearing?"
He groaned. We had been at this for hours.
Him offering outfits and me shooting them down time
and time again. I squatted and dug around in a tiny
chest of clothes my mom left for me. I ended up
choosing a small, yellow sundress with a black ribbon
tied around the top. Caleb sighed when he saw me.
"You look like Mom."
That one comment was enough to make me cry a little.
I went up to him, threw my arms around my big
brother, and talked into his chest, "Thanks for
everything, Caleb."
-
"Ethan!" My mom screamed up the
stairs.
"What?" I yelled back. No reply.
"WHAT?" Nothing still.
"WHAT IS IT?!" I stomped down the
stairs.
"There's no need to yell at me!" My
mom sighed.
"Then PLEASE, learn to respond!"
My mom pursed her lips in anger, but she ploughed on,
"We have to leave for the hospital."
"That's today?" I groaned.
"Yes. Now go upstairs, get dressed, and do try
to look nice." She scooted me up the old
staircase. I passed Tommy's room. He was
with Missy, playing with dinosaurs like they always
do.
"Hey Tommy?" Missy put down the
T-Rex.
"Yeah?" He looked up.
"I just wanted to tell you I love you!
You're my best friend in the whole world!"
She gave him a big hug. It took all I had in
me not to fall over. How could little kids get up
the courage to tell someone they loved them? They
probably don't even realize what they're SAYING.
I walked on to my room, the walls painted black and
the curtains closed. I threw themopen to change.
There was this girl across the street who used to
wave to me when she saw I was getting ready. She
had caramel hair and big green eyes. She hasn't
been at the window in a long time though, so I give up
and throw the curtains closed again.
I grabbed jeans, threw them on, and took a polo as I
walked out of my room. I was putting it on while I
went down the stairs when my mom nearly crashed into
me.
"Etha- Oh! You're down already.
Let's go then!" We got into our beat
up car and drove to the hospital as planned. I saw
the doctor I had talked to and he guided me to some dark
room. When I first walked in, I was shocked by the
fact that there was no one in the bed. But when I
closed the door, some guy shoved me against the wall.
"Who are you?" He growled.
"Ethan. I'm supposed to come here for some
dying girl," I shoved him off me.
"That's my sister you're talking about,
jerk. She's NOT going to die!" And
with that, he stormed out, but two seconds later her was
right back in. "If you upset her at all,
I'll kill you."
"Caleb, don't scare away the guy before you even
get to know him!" A voice sang from the
bathroom. Out came a girl in a yellow dress,
and I nearly fell over for the second time today when I
saw who it was. It was the girl from across the
street.
