Is it scary to think how close to death you could actually be? My appendix burst, and if I didn't go to the hospital that night, I would have died in the next forty-eight hours. I had no idea that my appendix was infected in the first place. I thought I had a stomach virus. Imagine I didn't go to a doctor that day? I wouldn't be writing this right now. I got major surgery to get my appendix removed and to clear out my stomach. It's called an open appendectomy. I had a large and very deep cut in my stomach from them going into it. It's still opened, and my mom has to stuff it with gauze twice a day. Disgusting, I know. Everyone tells me how strong I am for going through this. I'm not strong. I didn't have the choice. It's not like I woke up one day and said, "Hey, I'm gonna make my appendix burst, so I can almost die and get major surgery, making my summer boring." No, I didn't say that at all. I didn't choose for this to happen. I don't feel strong. I have to depend on everyone else to help me. How is that being strong? Sure, I'm mentally okay, and I'm over what happened, but I don't understand why everyone calls me so strong. I want to think I'm strong, but really I'm just living in the moment and not worrying. I'm being optimistic. I'm just trying to get through this. So maybe people think I'm strong. I'll let them think that. My little neighbor told me yesterday that she hopes to end up like me when she's older. I didn't want to rain on her parade and come back at her by saying, "So you want your appendix to burst and get major surgery?" She wouldn't have understood anyway. So maybe I don't think I'm strong. Maybe I'm just sick of hearing everyone say it. I don't understand why I deserved this. But I think it was because I always wanted some attention from people who normally don't care about me, and I got it. Most people would be thinking their life is terrible right now; I think I'll make the best of it. <3
