Daydreams Two “Oh, you’re still in school?”

Daydreams
Two

“Oh, you’re still in school?” the guys asked, “Awesome. What’s your major?”
So, even after I tell him I’m in school, he assumes I’m in college?
Well, I might as well play along; he’s too good looking not to.
“Creative Writing,” I lied, plastering a fake smile to my face.
Hopefully he didn’t ask me too many questions about college.
“So you write then, I assume? That’s cool.”
You assume a lot of things, I wanted to say, but I kept it to myself.
“Yeah, it’s fun,” I told him, which wasn’t a lie.
I’ve always wanted to be a writer.
I’ll be in college in a little over a year, and I’m pretty sure English or Creative Writing will be my major…on top of something else, of course.
Writing a book won’t suffice as a job.
Something made a dinging sound on the intercom, interrupting our conversation.
“We have now reached three-thousand feet. Passengers are allowed to turn on all electronic devices on airplane mode. Thank you!” chirped a flight attendant in an overly fake, happy voice.
“Hey,” the guy next to me said, “I hope you don’t mind, but I have to finish some paperwork for my new job.”
“No problem,” I shrugged, smiling, “I’m Kylie by the way.”
“Steven,” I nodded, reaching for his laptop.
I sighed contently and listened to music for a little while before falling asleep.
---
The ground beneath me shook rapidly, forcing me to jolt awake in shock.
“Oh!” I gasped, sitting upright.
That’s when I noticed I’d been resting my head on Steven’s shoulder the entire time I’d been asleep.
He was looking down at me with a smirk stretched across his delightfully attractive face.
“Have a nice nap?” he joked.
I felt my face burn a deep, red color.
I completely forgot I was sitting next to him.
“You have a comfy shoulder,” I joked back, “Sorry about that.”
“I don’t mind at all. Happy to be home?”
I rolled my eyes. “More like heartbroken.”
“I bet you’ll be happy to see your boyfriend back home.”
“Boyfriend?” I asked, my face flushing even more than it already had, “I don’t have a boyfriend.”
“Really?” he asked, almost looking amused. Then he changed the subject,  “Aw, well Connecticut has its ups too, you know. It can be really fun.”
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” I laughed.
“I’ll show you,” he beamed, “What do you say we hang out sometime? I know we just met and everything…and if you don’t want to hang out it’s fine with me… I mean…you’re just really sweet and funny…”
“I’d love to hang out with you,” I grinned, trying to hold in my excitement.
“Great,” he said, breathing a sigh of relief, “Here’s my phone number.”
He handed me a slip of paper with numbers scribbled on it and exited the plane before I even realized we could leave.
