Chapter 3
"What the hell, Lacey?" I hissed,
pulling her to the corner after the auction finished. "Why
did you sign me up for that stupid auction?"
Lacey sighed, rolling her eyes. "Be happy that you got
bidded on for seventy five bucks."
I grunted, shaking my head. "You don't get it, do you? I
don't want to be some kind of object-"
Lacey cut me off, as a smile flashed across her face.
"Oh, you're Evan, aren't you?" Lacey grinned,
pushing me in front of her. "I'm Lacey, the best friend
of your Valentine's Day date."
I looked up at Evan, noticing him blush.
He rubbed the back of his neck, giving me a small smile.
"Hey."
"Listen, I'm going to catch up with my date." Lacey
gave me a wink. "I'll see you later, Arden!"
I gave her a glare, as she blew me a kiss, skipping away.
I turned back to Evan, as he gave me a shy smile.
"So, you're Arden, huh?" he asked.
"That's me." I tried to sound enthusiastic, but
unlimately failing.
I looked down at the large camera hanging down from his neck.
Before I quit photography class in freshman year, I did learn
that a camera like the one he had costed a fortune.
"You're into photography?" I asked, raising an
eyebrow.
Evan smiled lightly, holding the camera up with his palms.
"Yeah." he paused. "I got this for my birthday
last year."
I nodded. "Are you in photography club? Art?"
Evan shook his head. "I'm part of the yearbook
club."
"Right." I muttered, biting my lower lip. "So, is
that the reason why you bidded on me?"
Evan's face flushed, as he cleared his throat. "Kind of.
Eliza said you were in the photography club, so I thought there
was a girl who finally had something in common with me."
I pursed my lips, staring down at my feet.
"I hope this doesn't ruin your opinion of me, but Eliza
forgot to mention that I quit photography club two years
ago."
Evan's eyes widened, as he bit his lip.
Great, he probably regrets spending seventy five bucks on me.
I don't blame him, though.
"Oh, well," Evan paused, surprising me by shrugging,
"that's fine, I guess."
I raised an eyebrow. "You sure? Because if you want, we
could go try to get a refund from-"
Evan laughed, shaking his head. "No need." he licked
his lips, giving me an unsure smile. "Unless you really
don't want to be my Valentine's date?"
I let out a short chuckle. "I hate Valentine's Day, in
general." I paused. "But, I'll go on that date with
you."
Evan grinned, nodding.
"Great."
