Something
More
Than Friends
*Chapter Sixteen*
“Uh, Jennifer?” Josh
asked, surprised by her visit. Both Josh and I stood from his
hospital bed as she approached us. “Oh Josh, I heard about
your terrible accident! Are you better now?” she asked,
clearly not as concerned as she wanted to sound. “And
uh…why is she here?” She asked in her
snobbish tone, referring to me. I rolled my eyes at her pathetic
attempt to aggravate me. Without any hesitation, Josh told her
exactly what we were both thinking. “Jennifer, it’s
nice that you came here to cheer me up and all, but I know what
you tried to do to Hanna and Bri that day at Ricky’s. And
Brielle has been visiting me every day since the accident,”
he began to say. But Jennifer took his words as a direct attack
towards her. Walking closer to where Josh and I stood, with fury
in her eyes, Jennifer mouth began running once again. “I
come all the way here just so you can accuse me of something I
didn’t even do?! I would never hurt either of them. Like,
why would I?” She tried to convince Josh. “I was just
checking up on you...” Josh glanced at me, with a look of
disbelief in his eyes, clearly not fooled by Jennifer’s
words. “Well, that’s very kind of you Jennifer, but
as you can see, Brielle and I were kind of in the middle of
something…” his voice trailed off. “Whatever.
You two have fun,” she remarked sarcastically. Jennifer
darted her eyes towards me, and whispered in my ear low enough
for only me to hear. “Oh, and by the way, you’re the
one that should be here in the hospital, not Josh.” Her
voice made me shudder, and with that, she stormed out of the
room, slamming the door behind here.
So much for no more interruptions, I thought, annoyed.
“I’m sorry,” Josh apologized. “It’s
okay. It’s not your fault Jennifer has a habit of causing
interruptions,” I assured him. Instead of sitting back on
top of his bed, he gently grabbed my hands and lead me towards
the small, blue sofa next to the window. The light raindrops were
still falling, and the sun was beginning to peek through.
“So, where were we?” he continued, both of us smiling
as we sat down on the comfortable couch cushions. His eyes looked
straight into mine, and he continued spilling his thoughts from
before. “You’re beautiful in each and every way. Each
time I see you, my heart beats a thousand miles per minute. You
are what keep me going each day, Brielle, and I don’t think
there’s any better time than now to tell you this,”
he confessed. Still holding his hands, I caught a glimpse of the
sun, making its way through the grey patches of clouds.
“You are my rock. You are my whole other half, and you are
what complete me. Whenever I’m with you, I feel like I can
be myself. You’ve been with me through everything. I
don’t know what I’d ever do without you.” A
golden ray of sunshine had shone through the window, and
glistening off of Josh’s face. “Brielle, you are my
everything. And with every part of my being, I can honestly say
that…”
“I love you.”
