*Chapter Seventeen*
“I love you, too,
Josh,” I said as I hugged him, beginning to cry because
I’d never been told anything like that before in my whole
life. This hug was more special than any other hug we shared,
because this time, I knew what Josh’s true feelings were
towards me. After a few minutes of just holding onto each other,
he looked into my eyes again. “Awh, Brielle, don’t
cry!” He laughed slightly. He gently brushed my hair out of
my face, then softly kissed my lips. “I’ve been
wanting to tell you for a while, Bri, I just couldn’t find
the right words to say,” he admitted. “I’ve
always loved you,” I confessed. He kissed me again, then
whispered in my ear, “I’ve loved you since the day we
met; in kindergarten, on the first day of school. Your hair was
tied back in a red ribbon, and you wore your favorite blue dress.
During recess, we were the only two kids who stayed by the
coloring table, and that’s where we first hit it
off,” he recalled. The two of us laughed together,
remembering all of our memories as kids.
For a while, we just sat on the couch together cuddling,
recalling things of our past and laughing about the silly things
we’d done. We eventually decided to turn on the TV, and
watch Spongebob together. Even in his arms though, I was
shivering do to the blasting air vents in the hospital room.
“You cold?” he asked me. I nodded my head slightly.
“A little.” Josh walked over to his bed and grabbed a
thick, cozy blanket from the foot of his bed and brought it over
to us. Josh sat back down and lay the blanket down on the both of
us. “Much better,” he smiled at me. I rested my head
upon his shoulder while we watched Spongebob and Patrick go jelly
fishing. “We’re such little kids,” I teased.
Josh laughed, then replied, “But we’re never too old
to watch Spongebob.”
About an hour later, a knock on Josh’s door startled the
both of us. “Come in!” Josh called. Both of his
parents walked through the doors, and his dad tossed him another
bag of Swedish Fish. “Thanks guys. So, uh, what’s
up?” he asked, because both of his parents had a look of
nervousness on their faces. “Josh honey, we wanted to talk
to you about something very important. If Brielle would like to
stay during the conversation, she may.” Josh turned to me,
and I asked him if it was alright that I stay. He had no problem
with it, so I stayed seated on the couch alongside of him.
Josh’s dad pulled two metal chairs from the closet, and
brought them towards the couch. As he placed both chairs In front
of Josh and I, both parents took a seat down.
“Listen Josh,” his mom started. “These things
are never easy.” My heart began racing faster, not
expecting any big news from anyone. “You see, your father
and I have been thinking lately, and we feel that it’s time
to tell you the news.” Did they win the lottery? Did
one of Josh’s relatives pass away? Is Mrs. Brady
pregnant? Endless possibilities ran through my mind, trying
hard to think of what they might be telling us. I felt like my
heart was about to jump out of my throat, and by the look of
distress on Josh’s face, I thought his was going to, as
well. “Your father and I have thought this through for a
very long time, and we’ve finally made the
decision.”
“We’re moving.”
