Daydreams
Twenty-Five
-
“Just tell your parents I came over
because my parents are on vacation for a while,” I begged
Brian once his car stopped in front of his house.
“Alright,” he sighed, opening his door and stepping
outside.
I followed after him.
I knew his house like the back of my hand.
“They’re probably asleep, so try and stay
quiet,” Brian whispered to me before unlocking his door
and letting us both inside.
“Where am I sleeping?” I asked.
“Derek’s room,” he said.
Derek was his three-year-old brother, the cutest thing in the
world.
“Isn’t he sleeping?” I whispered.
“Sh*t,” Brian cursed, “I’ll take the
couch tonight.”
“No, I’ll take the couch, it’s-” I
tried to protest, but Brian interrupted me.
“Sh,” he hushed, placing a finger to my lips,
“It’s okay. I promise.”
It was still so dark in his house I could barely see a
thing.
“Can you turn a light on?” I asked once he removed
his finger.
Within a second, the foyer light flicked on and I could see
Brian’s tired face as clear as day.
Suddenly, his expression went from blank to very worried.
I raised an eyebrow.
“How hard did that f*cking idiot hit you? Damn it,
Kylie,” he whisper-yelled, placing a hand to my face.
“What was I supposed to do?” I asked, raising my
eyebrows.
“Defend yourself! It’s not that hard!”
My eyes filled with angry tears and my jaw clenched in
rage.
“And how exactly to do expect me to do that?”
“Fight back!”
“Against a forty-something-year-old man? Are you kidding
me? Do you know how hard it is to even stand up after
he’s finished with me? Do you know how dizzy his punches
make me? Do you see the bruises on my arms? God,
Brian.”
“I’m just saying. Maybe if you started lifting
weights or something it would help. I just can’t stand
seeing you like this.”
“Well then don’t look at me,” I snapped,
hastily walking up the spiral staircase and into his
bedroom.
It was already embarrassing enough that I was staying at his
house, and now he’s humiliating me by telling me I need
to start lifting weights so I can defend myself.
Sure, he had a point, but did he really need to bring it up
now?
I shook my head as a tear rolled down my cheek.
I walked into his bedroom and sat on the edge of his bed, only
to see him follow in after me and shut the
door.
Wow.
Everyone's mean to poor. Kylie.
