My Guardian Angel C h a p t e r S e v e n t e e n : “Kate,

My Guardian Angel
C h a p t e r   S e v e n t e e n :

“Kate, oh my god you’ll never believe who’s at this party?” Ellie exclaimed, background noise sounded making it hard to hear her.
“Who?” I asked.
“Will!” she cried out.
“Why would I care?” I questioned, annoyed.
Will and I hadn’t talked to each other in weeks.
“He is totally trashed! And high!” she informed me.
“What?” I asked, wondering if I heard her wrong.
“He is so far gone!” she said.
“Where are you?” I said as I got paper and a pen.
I took down the address and grabbed my purse as I ran to my car.
Quickly backing out of my driveway, I put the car in drive and my tires squealed as I speeded down the street.
My emotions were all over the place: anger, guilt, worry.
I spotted the house easily, cars packed in the driveway and on the street.
I burst through the front door, greeted by the smell of smoke and beer.
Ellie was flirting with a boy and when she saw me she came running over.
“Hey!” she squealed excitedly.
“Where’s Will?” I demanded, scanning the crowd of people.
“I thought you didn’t care,” she said, her arms crossed.
I was getting worried, what if Will did something stupid?
“Just tell me if you know where he is,” I yelled.
“Someone's a little fiesty,” she snorted, “He’s in the basement with some sketchy people.”
Without another word I pushed pass her and thumped down the stairs.
There Will sat with a few other people, someone pulling out a plastic bag of something white.
“Will, we need to talk,” I said as I stood awkwardly.
He looked up at me, “What do you want?”
“Please just come with me,” I begged.
“Nah, I think I’m going to stay here,” he said.
Feeling bold, I grabbed him by the arm and managed to pull him upstairs and outside.
“Are you crazy?” I shouted, “I thought you quit doing all of this!"
“People say things but then they change their mind. You’re no stranger to the concept,” he stated.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, frustrated.
“Don’t play dumb. One day you are confessing your love to me, kissing me and acting all lovey dovey and then the next thing I know you’re dumping me!” he yelled at me.
“I always thought you were the one who understood me and what I was going through. I couldn’t date you with all these memories of Cole coming back. It didn’t feel right!” I argued, hurt.
“That's a line of bullsh!t and you know it! I supported you, I was always there for you and I do understand you. I understand you better than you understand yourself. You’re just too afraid to make another commitment, afraid that the same thing will happen,” he argued back.
I was quiet because I knew he was true.
“That’s what I thought,” he said, turning to walk back inside.
“You’re right,” I called out.
He paused and turned to look at me as if to say continue.
“I am afraid the same thing will happen, I’m afraid if I get too close you’ll… die. And that’s why I came here. I love you Will and when Ellie called me telling me you were doing drugs and drinking, I came here to stop you. I came here to stop you so I wouldn’t lose you because of some stupid mistake!” I confessed.
I couldn’t read his expression, partly because he wasn’t in the right state of mind.
“Just let me take you home. You don’t have to forgive me right now, just don’t go back in that party!” I begged him, desperate.
To my surprise, even though he didn’t say a word to me, he let me take him home.
