trouble
Chapter 32
I've had trouble sleeping for
the past few days.
I always stayed up, with my mind preoccupied with thoughts about
how quickly I lost both Scarlet and Travis with the snap of my
fingers.
I buried my face in my pillow, letting my tears stain the
pillowcase.
Where did I ever go wrong?
What had I ever done to deserve all of this?
I've always been quiet and blended in with the crowd, but
now, I was the center of everyone's talk.
People were still talking about how I had gotten soda thrown over
me from days ago, and they would always shook me snarky remarks
as I walked down the hallways.
"You look a little under the weather today, Riley."
Lola said in a sickley sweet voice. "Did Travis finally get
bored of you?"
I groaned at the memory, remembering how bright my cheeks had
turned.
I glanced over at my digital clock, noticing that it was six in
the morning.
I had gotten a minimum of ten minutes of sleep last night.
It was a bit too early to go to school, but I couldn't stand
laying in bed any longer, so I got up and took a quick, cold
shower.
The icy water drained away my thoughts, as I threw on a knitted
sweater and a pair of distressed jeans that were ages too
old.
The morning brisk was chilly, and it was still dark outside.
I figured that I would go to the coffee shop a few blocks from
school, since I needed the extra boost of energy if I was going
to survive another day.
I was surprised to find that the coffee shop was packed, but I
also remembered that it was a few minutes into rush hour.
Business men and women were all pushing people out of the way
hurriedly, holding their to-go mugs in their hands.
When I was next in line, I noticed that someone very familiar was
at the cashier.
"Riley?" the cashier asked, a grin spreading across his
lips. "I thought it was you!"
I remembered the moppy blonde from anywhere, as I smiled at
Dylan.
"Hey." I gave him a weak smile. "I didn't know
you worked here."
Dylan rolled his eyes. "Well, I just started-"
"Dylan, no chatting with the customers! Get to work!" a
scruffy woman glared at Dylan, who groaned.
"Wait five minutes, okay?" Dylan smiled. "I'll
be on break by then, and I'll get you a cup of
coffee."
I nodded, stepping out of the line to wait for Dylan by one of
the booths.
Five minutes later, the coffee shop was still busy, but not as
wild as it was a while ago.
Dylan finally came over to where I was, two mugs in his
hands.
"I hope you like mocha lattes?" he raised an eyebrow.
"It's my specialty."
I laughed before taking a small sip.
The hot liquid burned the roof of my mouth, but it still tasted
amazing.
"I love it." I nodded in satisfaction.
Dylan stared at me for a moment, and thats when I finally
realized that his eyes were brown.
His eyes were soft, but behind them laid many secrets that
didn't want to be spoken about.
"How come I never see you come over anymore?" Dylan
asked, a soft smile appeared on his lips. "Did something
happen between you and Travis?"
Oh Lord, not this again.
