Liar Liar Pants on
Fire
Chapter 1
"Just a few more weeks, baby, and I'll be
back."
I stared into his deep, blue eyes, shimmering off the
reflection of the sun. I reached my hand out, second guessing
myself, but forcing an unsure smile on my face. He smiled back;
the upper corner of his lip twitching as tears welled up in my
eyes.
"I love you, Cornelius." I whispered. He grabbed my
hand, intertwining his fingers with mine. Our hands fit
together like puzzle pieces, as if we were meant to be.
Cornelius Daniel Robinson was his full name, but he despised
it. I was the only one allowed to call him by his first name,
but everyone else knew him as Daniel.
"I love you too, Ashley," he said to me, so softly I
had to strain my ears to hear it. Finally he kissed me on the
forehead, so delicately that I barely felt the touch of his
cold lips. His breathe felt like ice, always, and that's
what I loved about him. He was fragile as glass and sweet as
sugar.
"I want you to listen to me," he said. "Six
months, Ash. Six. I need you to stay here. Do it for me. Deny
every insult you get from anyone. I know that when you're
upset you look for me, but for this time, you can't. You
can't call me, text me, email me, nothing. I won't have
the technology out there. I was told by my captain that we
wouldn't even have access to written letters. So I want you
to hear me now and hear me clear. This is a scary world. While
I'm gone, I won't be in the safest place, I'm not
going to lie. Bullets will be flying all around me. But
I'll promise you something. I'm going to try for you.
I'll try to stay alive. And the only support I'll have
is YOU, babe. Don't back down. You'll see me
again."
Tears dripping down my cheek one by one, I tried to catch my
breath. I needed to do it for him. He was going on military
leave. I knew it was a dangerous place.
I wrapped my arms around his body, sobbing. He ran his fingers
through my hair, staying by my side as long as he could.
"Gate 18-F, all passengers please wait at Gate 18-F. Your
plane is getting ready for take off in 5 minutes, ladies and
gentleman, 5 minutes," a deep, booming voice called
through the speakers.
He gave me one last kiss, the last one I'll feel for a long
time. I rubbed his arm, feeling the muscular indents on his
triceps. He was ripped, not gonna lie - but muscles weren't
why I truly loved him. Cornelius was one of the most attractive
men you'll ever see, with a 6 pack of abs and hip bones
known as the v-line. I never understood why he loved me back, I
was just a twig, with no curvy figure. Just bones, with tanned
skin and long, fiery red hair down to my waist. Snapping me out
of my tears, he let go of my hand, caressing my face and
kissing me on my lips. "Goodbye," he said. And with
that, he was gone.
