Chapter 40 Part 2: Ben's P.O.V
Cont.
I sighed, “Aly, I--”
“Because you can’t. You just can’t. It’s
a week before the show and that’s not fair to everyone that
has worked so hard to make this our best show yet. And I know
that you want to be in it. You’ve worked so hard. You
really have earned that role.” She stopped and licked her
lips, shaking her head, a sad smile forming on her lips.
“Don’t let your problems with me interfere with the
play. The show must go on right?” She laughed shortly, but
it seemed forced. “We’re actors; we won’t be us
on stage. So don’t let me be the reason you quit.
You’re no quitter, Ben.” She finished as she looked
up at me, pressing her lips together.
“You’re right.” I said after mulling over what
she said. “I can’t be selfish and ruin the play for
everybody else.”
Her eyes lit up and she suppressed a smile. “Thank
you.” She said quietly. “I, um, I also wanted to talk
to you about earlier. Well, it’s more
that I need to talk
to you than anything else. Sorry, I’m
babbling, so what I wanted--”
“Enough, Val.” I cut her off. I said it softly, I
didn’t want to hurt her feelings, but I didn’t want
to listen to whatever it was she had to say. I surprised myself
when I called her Val instead of Aly, and it was clear that she
caught my slip-up too when a look of hurt registered on her face.
“I said I’d stay. That didn’t mean I wanted to
talk about what happened. It’s done. I don’t want to
talk about it, and I think it would be better if we just
didn’t talk for a few days outside of the play.” I
tried to say it in the nicest way possible, but it still felt
mean because I was saying it to Aly.
“But Ben I had something really imp--”
“I don’t care.” I said lightly as I collapsed
on my bed and put my earphones in, hoping she would get the cue
to leave.
Her eyes glossed over and she gulped, nodding her head lightly
and scrambling out of my room.
A few minutes later, I felt weight pressing down on my bed and I
opened my eyes to reveal my younger sister, Jamie.
“Hey, Jame, what’s up?” I asked, sitting up and
pulling my earphones out.
“Why was Valley crying when she left here?” She
asked.
“It’s okay Jame, we had a fight was all.” I
said and she looked at me sadly.
“About what?” She asked.
“Grown-up stuff, you’ll understand when you’re
older.” I said and she sighed exaggeratedly.
“That’s what everyone says.”
I ruffled her hair and started tickling her and she squealed,
kicking her feet.
“Agh, Jame, I think you broke a rib.” I choked out,
clutching my rib cage.
“What? Really?” She asked, suddenly alarmed.
“No.” I said and laughed as I continued tickling
her.
“Tha-that’s not fair!” She managed to get out
between breaths. I released her and she hurried to my door so I
couldn’t tickle her anymore.
“Hey Ben?” She said curiously.
“Hmm?” I sighed contentedly, leaning against the wall
above my bed.
“Do you think you and Valley will ever make up?”
“I don’t know kiddo.” I said honestly.
“But you love her, don’t you?” She asked
innocently.
I looked at her strangely, about to question her on how she knew
or what gave her that idea, but there was no point in denying it.
“Yeah Jamie, I do.”
“Then you will.” She smiled before giggling and
skipping away.
A/N
So I'm hoping to wrap this up in a few more chapters,
maybe 5ish or so?
How was everyone's day?
Mine was lovely because I got my braces off! Finally! (:
I really hate that I keep having to post them in two parts
because they're too long, ASJBDPBHP.
Let me know what you think!
