The Letter. THE CHANGE.
The Lie.
Chapter 53:
June 28 a week & a 1/2 later
*Mia's POV*
I looked in the mirror one last time. I was wearing a black
dress with lacy sleeves that reached just above my knees. I had
exchanged some heels for a pair of flats so it would be easier to
walk if I needed to carry Milo. My hair was pulled over to one side
and my make up was very simple.
"My, could you do my tie
please?" Niall asked appearing in my doorway. I walked over
to him and quickly fixed his tie. I avoided eye contact as I did,
I didn't really want to see how he was reacting.
"We need to leave soon if we
want to be at the church on time," he said. He walked off to
go find Milo.
Today was Tessa's funeral. She
died earlier this week, her heart and lungs had finally given up.
When we were told we were all shocked; we visited her regularly
so she could see Milo and even though she didn't look great
she looked stronger than what she was.
I didn't cry, I didn't cry
at all. I didn't hate her, but I couldn't cry. I
couldn't find the tears to cry. Katia did, but she has always
been a horrible sympathetic cryer. I'm talking bawling during
Disney movies she had seen countless times. I think she was
crying more for Milo than anything, because now he will never
know his mom.
I don't know if Niall cried,
and I don't want too. I don't want to know how much she
meant to him. I did in the aspect I want to know if he cared for
her more than he said or showed, but at the same time if he did I
didn't know how I would be able to handle that.
I put in my earrings and walked out
to find Niall putting Milo in his car seat. Milo was wearing
brown pants with a dark navy shirt. I walked over and started to
put things in his bag; pacifier, towel, extra bottle and diapers.
I zipped it up the bag and carried it to the door.
I watched as Niall scrambled from
one place to another. He was obviously nervous about meeting the
few relatives Tessa had. I noticed as he walked his shoes were
untied.
"Ni," I said, getting his
attention.
"Hmm? What am I
forgetting?"
"Your shoelaces," I said
gently. He looked straight down at his feet and then started
blushing slightly. Mumbling things to himself he bent down and
tied his shoes. After he stood back up we left.
We met everyone at the church.
Right as we parked Louis and Katia pulled up. Their relationship
was back to the way it was before Katia's nightmare; it took
a couple days but she was able to move past it. We waited as they
stepped out of the car. Louis's outfit was very similar to
Niall's, black suit with white dress shirt and matching black
tie. Katia was wearing a black dress that was just a tad
shorter than mine with sleeves that covered her arms (I'm
assuming to hide the bruises that still littered her skin). We
walked into the church together to find the rest of the boys
waiting for us, all dressed like Niall and Louis.
We talked a little amongst
ourselves for a bit before entering the church. We walked up
closer to the front and we all sat down, taking an entire pew. We
sat in the middle of the church, not wanting to sit in the very
back but not feeling comfortable to sit towards the front. We
hadn't exactly been invited to the funeral by the family, and
only knew about it because of the nurse that took care of Milo
and Tessa while they were at the hospital.
Not long after we sat down the
service started. It was a nice service, a little long but very
nice. We watched as the family walked out down the middle aisle.
As they did a woman, in her mid 20s looked over at us. She almost
stopped and stared, but she kept going, keeping her eyes on Niall
as long as possible.
Once it was our turn we walked out
and into the waiting area. I was holding Milo and making faces at
him as he smiled up at me. He had just started really smiling a
couple days ago and it was the cutest thing. As we were
getting ready to leave a women came over, it was the women that
watched us as she walked by.
"Hello," she said shyly.
I felt Niall bristle besides me as she rested her gaze on him.
"I'm Jessica, Tessa's sister."
"Hello Jessica, we are all
very sorry for your loss," Liam spoke for us.
"Thank you," she smiled
down at the ground. "If you don't mind me I don't
recognize any of you. Were you friends of Tess's?" She
looked directly at Niall as she spoke.
"Yes," Niall said.
"I'm Niall." He stuck his hand out to shake hers
but she didn't seem to catch it. After a moment he dropped
his arm and stuck his hand in his pocket.
"Niall?" she repeated.
"The lad she was talking with?"
"Erm yes, but we only talked
about Milo," he said awkwardly.
"Milo? Who is that?" she
was genuinely confused by what we were talking about.
"Our son," Niall spoke
slowly.
"Tessa had a kid?"

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hey guys! Any predictions on what is
going to happen? I'm probably post another chapter or two

I'm ready to move on. Thank you so much for reading, love you
all!
