Lost and Insecure
Chapter 3
“What the hell, you didn’t tell me you were going on a
date with Sebastian Duke!” My sister spencer yelled as she
barged into my room.
“How did you know that?” I asked.
“A better question is how do you know him?” she asked
ignoring my question.
“I met him in school today, now answer my question!” I
yelled.
“Bailey, everyone knows. He’s the most popular guy in
the school, he tells one person and then boom, everyone
knows.”
“Oh my god.”
“So you might as well tell me what else happened before
someone else does.”
“He told me he liked me and he kissed me.” I said, not
looking up to see her reaction.
“Bailey, no he didn’t!” my sister yelled.
“Yes, yes he did.”
“You know how many people are going to hate you
tomorrow?”
“No.”
“A lot.”
“I didn’t care what people thought about me before and
I sure don’t care what they think now.”
“Ok, but maybe you shouldn’t talk to him in school
tomorrow.”
“Why?”
“Well there’s a pretty good chance that he’ll
stop talking to you and act like he never knew you.”
“I don’t think he’s going to though. He’s a
really good guy Spenc.”
“Ok, but don’t come crying to me when he breaks your
heart.” Spencer said and walked about of my room. I
didn’t have to worry about that because he wasn’t going
to, I hoped.
When I arrived at my first class the next day everyone staired at
me and whispered. I tried my best to ignore them but it was pretty
hard. I just kept my eyes glued on the floor and then when I got to
my desk I slouched really far down and hoped I would just
disappear. Every class was the same thing, they sat and staired.
The hallways were even worse though. People would throw things at
me, but I just kept walking and pretended I didn’t feel it.
Lunch was different though; obviously Sebastian knew all these
people knew but I didn’t know yet him he wanted them to or
didn’t want them to. When I walked into the lunchroom the
noise didn’t stop, but it did get a lot lower. I walked to
the table I had sat at yesterday and waited to see if I would get
humiliated or saved. When Sebastian walked in I didn’t look
at him because I didn’t want to seem like a bigger loser if
he didn’t sit with me. He went on line, got his food and then
sat down at the table with all of his popular friends. He sat there
and laughed and acted like nothing even happened. I knew it was
too good to be true. I stood up with all my stuff, threw out
my lunch and then walked out of the lunchroom. As soon as I left I
heard the noise get 10x louder. I wondered what Sebastian was doing
right now. I wondered if he even bothered to look back as I left
the lunchroom. I wondered what he was thinking. I wondered if he
felt bad that he didn’t sit with me, or even regretted it. it
was too late now because he was sitting with Mackenzie and I knew
what she was thinking, I told you so.
