Chapter 2
Neil
"We are
starting a new topic this week; Media. Now, if you open your
books on page ninety-two you'll see that-"
Mr. West - my English teacher - was
interrupted by Hayley Threadgold bursting through the door. Wow.
I'd forgotten how pretty she was. She was beautiful and every
boy wanted her, but she didn't want them. She never noticed
them. She must have noticed the way the stared at her, of course
- nobody could miss that kind of attention - but she didn't
care.
She started talking to Mr. West - calling him
John, which made a few people laugh - but I didn't pay
attention. I never hated Hayley Threadgold, but I despised the
way she treated other people. She never cared about anyone else.
Only herself. She took everything for granted - her house, her
family, her education. But, having said that, I could never have
hated her. She was the kind of person that I had always wanted to
be. She didn't care what anyone else thought, and I loved
that.
I knew for a fact that she hated me - she
didn't try to hide it - and I liked that about her too. She
had no reason to hate me, but she did. And, for some odd reason,
I liked that.
She walked casually down to take her seat
beside me, pulling a face as she did so. Everyone stared at her;
all the girls jealous of her, the boys wanting her. Her red
school-skirt was pulled up way higher than anyone else's. It
was a school rule that they had to be to the knee, but she
didn't care. She flicked her long, wavy brown hair over her
shoulder and it whip-lashed my face. I rolled my eyes. She
didn't seem to notice that it had hit me.
She took out her phone and started texting,
not even bothering to be discreet about it like the rest of us
did.
"Hayley," Mr. West said, raising
his eyebrow at her. She didn't hear him - to wrapped up in
her conversation with someone - and continued to make it obvious
that she was texting. I nudged her with my elbow.
"Ew. What
do you want?"
she spat. B..ch.
I was trying to help you, I
thought. I nodded towards Mr. West, and they started
arguing - entertaining the entire class, except me. I tuned it
out, as usual. Her back-talk always p..sed me off.
Hayley ended up being sent to the principals office, and Mr. West
spent the rest of the class telling us about
Hayley's poor behaviour. He dismissed the class early when he
was about to explode with anger.
