If you think about it,
Hogwarts would actually be a really creepy place to live.
Imagine it:
A big, drafty castle with ghosts popping out of walls, suits of armor with big spiky weapons planted all around, lots of lonely cat people as teachers, an old caretaker with a demon cat, paintings that move, forbidden corridors with three-headed dogs, a forest full of giant spiders, a lake full of warrior mermaids. Especially at Hallowe'en, with all the floating pumpkins and candles.
Oh, and let's not forget the evil wizard who's bent on the school's destruction.
