Take Me Home Chapter 2 Drew’s POV “You didn’t

Take Me Home

Chapter 2

Drew’s POV

You didn’t have to do this,” Kristin told me, staring at the picnic I put together for her. She was so cute, with her curly brown hair in a ponytail and her emerald green eyes filled with glee. She was wearing her favorite blue bikini with white spots and had on the silver heart necklace I had given her for Christmas.

Hey, it’s the least I could do. After all, it is your 18th birthday. Come on, how about I kick your butt at surfing?” I asked, being careful not to use the A word. Ever since we began dating, Kristin had been trying to get me to stop swearing. It wasn’t really working out, although I did try to refrain from it while she was around.

In your dreams!” she shouted at me before grabbing her surf board and running towards the water. I grabbed my own and ran after her. I decided to let her beat me to the first wave since I was usually the first one there, anyways. I’d let her have a turn at victory. I splashed along behind her and watched as she jumped onto her surfboard.

As she sped off, I slowly reached my hand into my pocket and fingered the small box that was lying in it. I wondered when I should do it. It would have to be soon; she needed to be home by 8 to meet her best friend who was flying in from London. Maybe I would propose right before we left.

I started swimming towards her when I felt something brush against my leg. Something smooth. I looked down in the water and got a glimpse of a huge shadow. Suddenly, a hulking shape popped out from the water and clamped to my right arm. I couldn't cry out before I was dragged underwater. Fear rushed through my body, numbing my senses. I couldn't feel anything, let alone fight back. The thing thrashed around a bit, throwing me like a rag doll. I opened my eyes, ignoring the stinging salt, but I quickly wished I hadn’t. I got a glance at the biggest shark I had ever seen in my life. It must have been a great white, and I could tell it wasn’t planning on letting go of me any time soon. I tried to kick it, and I must have gotten a direct hit because it shrank back, which allowed me to climb back onto my surfboard.

Never before had I felt such terror as I did at that moment. I tried to scream for help, but I couldn’t produce any sound. My head was spinning. I was aware of a strange sort of emptiness where my arm should have been and I started to see black dots in my vision. It couldn’t end like this. I couldn’t die, not while I had my whole life ahead of me. I tried desperately to stay conscious, and I soon heard Kristin screaming my name. I tried to move, to speak, to do anything. But I couldn’t. I could feel myself losing control of my body. The last thing I saw was Kristin’s face hovering over me before I blacked out.
