- All A Mystery Chapter 10 As I rolled over onto my side, my eyes opened to the morning sun shining onto my face, in an unfamiliar room. I tugged the blanket off and noticed I was in a dark blue tshirt and sweat pants, neither of them mine. My eyes darting around the unknown room, assuming it was Sams, with no sign of him. The bed was huge, with dark blue sheets and a big white comforter. The room was fairly large, enough to hold bed side tables, a tall stand up dresser and a large closet. There was even a bathroom across from where the bed was position in the center of the room. As I sat up, my hips and waist, screamed in pain, memories from last night flooding into my mind. Conner dragging me to his car, Sam beating the oblivion out of him, his eyes growing black in anger, nothing stopping him. The blue shirt I had on, got tugged up so I could take a better look to see how bad it was. There were large fingertip bruising on my waist and hips, all of them black and blue. I sighed and climbed out of bed, my barefeet patting along the carpet to tile flooring. Sam's living room was quite huge; black leather couch chair and love seat with a flat screen tv mounted over a wall, beneath a fire place. A small window sill seat was tucked in the corner almost hidden, and and around a small corner, looked to be the front door. It was quite the flat, except there was no Sam. I took a deep breath and sat down on the couch, that looked as if Sam slept there last night, with an ice pack on my waist that I took from his freezer. After waiting over an hour and a bit, flipping through the boring tv and books, I decided I might as well head home. My backpack was my the door that contained an extra outfit in case of emergency, or over an over night situation, Maggie packed yesterday. I tugged out a pair of shorts with a baby blue tshirt and a tan jacket, along with my colourful splatter painted flip flops. My hands were careful as I slid my shorts on just below the brusing, and my top sitting loosely against my body. As for my messy hair, it was tugged into a very messy bun, sitting ontop of my head. Just after I plopped my bags down at the door with my shoes and sat on the couch, Sam walked into the house, taken by surprise that I was sitting there. "Hi." I whispered standing as he kicked off his red high tops. "Morning." He smiled placing coffee down onto the table, my eyes following his movements. "How'd you sleep?" Sam asked. "Okay." I answered. His knuckles caught my attention. They looked scruffed up with red stains, looking almost like blood. Sam extended his hand that held coffee in it and I automatically took it into mine. "Where were you?" I asked blowing into the coffee. "Had something to take care off." He shrugged his jacket off and tossed it onto the arm chair. "I see, same thing that caused blood to get onto your knuckles?" My voice asked, before I could stop myself. "Could be." He sat down. "Who?" I asked, not wanting to make eye contact. "Conner wanted to talk." Sam admitted. I let out a short dry laugh, "Talk, doesn't seem like you both just talked." I openly stated. "Not my fault." he said. I set my untouched coffee onto the table infront of me then stood up. "I need to go." I told him, grabbing my bags and slipping my shoes on, heading for the door. "Where to?" He asked curiously. "Home, things to do." I replied nervously. "I'll drive you." Sam offered, grabbing his car keys. "No." I practically shouted before adding, "I'll walk," with a weak smile. "It's fine, I'll drive you." He restated. "I don't want you to." I whispered reaching for the door. Sams body moved quicker than me as he blocked my opertunity to leave the flat, guarding the door with his back. "Why not?" He asked, staring into my eyes. "How could you just, just up and leave and go to beat the living daylights, out of some guy, come back and expect a girl to be fine with you having blood on your knuckles?!" I shouted at him. His chest rose and fell quickly, his face growing somewhat mad. "He hurt you, Im not going to allow that to happen." Sam shouted back at me. "I don't need you to take care of me. I can fight my own battles." I spat. He moved closer to me pinning me against the walls, his eyes going black with anger. "I care about you, and I will do what it takes to keep you safe." He growled at my face. His massive hands, clamped down against my waist as I shrieked with pain. My body winced at the touch and my hands instantly flew to his wrists to pry his fingers away. "He hurt you Grace, Do you not understand that?!" He continued to shout terrifyingly loud. "Like you are now?" I whispered, begging he'd let go. His hands dropped to his side as he eyes turned pleadingly green, lifting my shirt up slightly and tracing over the marks. "You didn't deserve this." He whispered softly. "Things happen." I murmured. I stared up at his as his gaze stayed on the bruises. Eventually his eyes found mine and his warm lips were crushed to mine somewhat nicely. I pushed him back against the wall beside the door. "Sam," I started as he came back towards me, "Stop," I tossed my hands into the air, seperating him from me. I sighed opening the door and walking out rather quickly, dashing down the few steps and heading towards the local bus stop about 2 blocks away. "Grace." Sam called from the porch. I ignored him, as I kept walking wanting to get away. Sam was hard to understand, how could he get so aggressive and then flash back to being kind and soft spoken? I didn't understand it. The bus pulled up as I reached the stop climbing on and paying my fare. I peered out the window before it took off, to see Sam, running to catch it. I closed my eyes and rested my head against the window. My buzzing phone, make my eyes dart open as I read the caller ID. 'Dad.' I called her the other day to catch up and chat before she went to go see Sam, who I knew in highschool, at his place. She told me the news about her being pregnant and I was ecstatic knowing she'd be a great mom. Grace called me again today to go shopping with her for some baby necessities since Sam has something important to deal with. I was aware that Sam was in the army shortly after Grace found out. He was due to leave within the week, which Grace wasn't looking forward to. The doorbell rand just as I grabbed my keys to my car, Grace appearing behind it. "Sophie!" She shrieked. "Grace! How are you?" I laughed hugging her tightly. "Doing good, tired actually." She giggled out. "You'll experience a lot of that." I nudged her. "Ready to go?" She asked. "All set." She smiled as she hooked her arm through mine as we walked down the sideway heading to my car. ... "I wonder if she could hide french fries in her hair." I asked sitting in the food court. "She probably has some in there already." Grace added. "Maybe she could use another one?" I pondered holding up my fry. I took aim and it landed in her mop of curls, the lady not even noticing, Grace died of laughter. "How did she not feel that?!" Grace choked out through laughed. "Must have a protection shield." I shrugged causing us both to laugh like idiots. "It's probably a wig." Grace added. We finished up our drinks before tossing our garbage into the garbage can, heading off towards the baby shoppe. "So how are things with you and Sam?" I asked making conversation. "Alright, we got into an argument yesterday, he tried testing me, so I gave it to him." She replied. "Really?" "Mhm, After we finished shopping, he dropped me off at home and I just walked inside, didn't wait for him. I was ticked off. He texted me early this morning saying he can't see me because something important came up apparently, what I don't know." She added. "Everything you said on the phone then." I spoke. "Pretty much. I mean, he leaving soon. I don't want him to leave with us arguing you know? I'll admit that he has his anger moments but I'm afraid that one day I might set him off." She whispered, tossing white newborn undershirts into her basket. "Yeah, I get you. Maybe you need to talk, and what about Conner?" I asked next. "Conner terrifies me. I mean, When Sam leaves I don't know what I'll have to deal with. I plan on getting a place of my own when Sam leaves, without him knowing, that way I can get it all over and done with." She answered. "Good idea, I know Sam enough to know he'll want to buy everything and do everything, you need to get it over with, I'll help you if you need it." I smiled tossing her a toy. "Thanks Sophie. You're awesome." She laughed playing the toy into the basket. Just as we finished checking out, Graces phone rang. "Its Sam." She said looking at the Caller I.D. "Go ahead." I replied sitting on the bench outside the store as she stepped off to the side. ... Graces POV I excused myself as Sophie sat down on the bench, pressing the talk button and muffling a hello into the phone. "Grace?!" Sam shouted through the phone. "Yes?" I replied. "Where are you?!" He replied panicked. "Im at the mall, what's going on?" I asked. "I need you to go to my place." He told me. "I'm out shopping with Sophie. I can't right now." I replied annoyed. "Grace!" He shouted at me. "Tell me whats going on then." I demanded. "You know I told you I had to deal with something right? Well I did, least I thought I did." Sam rambled off. "Sam, spit it out." I shouted at him. "Look, He knows Conners brother, Conner is apparently starting more problems. Theres a fight tonight, between me and him at the old gym you went to, remember?" Sam asked. "Yes I do, Why are you fighting?" I asked, suddenly scared. "Because, he's horrible Grace, you know that. I'm ending it once and for all." Sam spat. "Sam, you're going to kill him." I whispered. "Good." Sam replied sourly. "Have fun then Sam, Im not going to watch you beat someone to death." I replied. "Grace, I need you there." "Sam, I'm pregnant. I don't need this, not today. You're leaving in a few days, thats bad enough." "Grace please?" Sam begged. "I'll be at your flat in an hour." I sighed. I hung up the phone before telling Sophie the news, she agreed to drive me. We quickly headed for the exit and headed off towards Sam.
