THE MASK
The smiles,
The laughs,
We hide behind this fake happiness,
Until the harsh reality of it all comes crashing in,
Out of nowhere,
And it breaks you down so bad,
Sometimes to the point of no return,
But you don’t show your true self,
Because you’re afraid of what others will say,
So you continue to hide behind your mask,
So depressed and torn up inside,
Feeling so lost and alone,
Not knowing what to do next,
Not knowing,
-not having any clue-
What the future will bring,
You just hope it’s better than what’s in the
moment.
You wish you could remove your mask,
Show everyone the real you,
But you don’t because you don’t want to be beaten down
any more than you already have.
When you’re around your friends,
You put on a fake smile and hope it’s believable,
But when you’re alone,
You beat yourself up even more,
Telling yourself you’re not worth it and you sit there
alone,
Trying to numb the pain,
To find any release,
Anything to distract you,
So that you can put your mask back on and make it through another
day.
