THANK YOU FOR THIS! It is so incredibly frustrating for me. So I happen to live in an affluent neighborhood, does that make me a spoiled brat? No my mom just lost her job and my dads work shift changed. I don't have a car, we have an average size house, and I don't even have an iPhone. But i can't complain about my life because I'm not a starving child or a victim of abuse or anything else. No, I never officially was diagnosed with depression, but I also don't go around telling people I'm depressed. I've been battling suicidal thoughts for 4 and a half years. But since I'm a white girl from a wealthy suburban neighborhood, I'm obviously just looking for attention. Ugh sorry for my rant but this is something that really irks me. Thx for posting this xoxo

The way people trivialize mental illness is awful. I hate that people assume that the only reason someone may develop a mental health issue is a traumatic event - it leaves those who have seemingly 'perfect' lives more reluctant to seek help, as they think that they're 'exaggerating' or should just get over it.
Just because one person develops depression due to tty things happening to them doesn't mean that it's the only reason people develop depression. Depression can occur in anyone, regardless of their race, gender, socio-economic status, age, and life path. It sucks that people aren't taking you seriously, and I sincerely hope that the people around you who are treating you this way stop being inconsiderate, ignorant buttheads.

I just realized how this might be interpreted, so, before the mis-informed complaining/ranting begins, let me tell you that I know that I am blessed to have been born in a country that lets me be free, I know that I am blessed to have a family with a job, and I know that in the capitalist society I live in being white is a big thing. However, what those things symbolize and how people treat you sometimes as a result is what I'm complaining about.
