- Feeling a lil preachy today, so please bear with me; Alright, so music is a thing...and I used to listen to it any chance I got; going to bed, getting up from bed, whilst studying, sometimes during school, on the drive to and from school, basically all day, every day. But last week I don't know, I just felt the urge to kind of take a break from it. I don't know if that happens with anyone else, but it's like when you've been eating junk food and in the beginning you're like 'this is greeeAaat!1!' but then the food starts to not taste as good and I don't know, that was a bad comparison but hopefully you got the point. So after listening to Tay Tay, Nicki, Beyoncé, Nick Jonas, Kanye, Demi and Hannah Montana (don't even joking) for a bit I kind of got sick of it. So I just stopped. It wasn't even because I'd heard the songs replayed a bajillion times, I was just getting sick of being told to do what I wanted, and not care about anything. That was the message in the majority of the songs; who cares, do what you want. That wouldn't be a bad message if it was about being a surgeon or ballerina, but no, it's usually about the coco or getting tangled up with someone in bed all night. Maybe some of you don't care about the words and just love the beat, but still. And some of you might think this doesn't really apply to you because you listen to other music, but if you actually look into it, being your own rule maker, is the message that's being pumped out. I don't know if any of you are familiar with a man named Aleister Crowely, but get familiar with him (maybe don't, because he's a sicko) because a majority, if not all music artists are inspired by him. If you search you'll find a massive list but I can only remember Gaga, the Beatles and Elvis. Basically the man created this book with the help of some demon (I'm not kidding) and to him it was the equivalent of the bible, but unlike actual holy books, this book by Crowley only had one rule, or commandment, and I don't think this should come as a surprise; Do what thou wants. That's pretty much it. Do what you want, it's pretty much saying 'be your own God.' It's freaky that the one rule for satanism is the one message that's being pumped through the music industry. It's almost like brainwashing, and if you believe in souls, kinda like soul-washing too (that made no sense but you get me). This man was obviously insane, but not only that, but very ruthless. He worked in close relation to nazis, did human sacrifices and a number of really disturbing things- yet many celebs people look up to today, are inspired by him. Plato, who was a Greek philosopher, once said something along the lines of 'Be careful what music you let enter your society. For it has the power to destroy it.' I know now I sound insane, but all his does add up. One coincidence is just a coincidence, multiple coincidences is evidence. And some of you might be thinking 'it's just music.' Well, I've found a few more quotes from Plato, that show that music isn't something to be taken lightly; "Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul." “Philosophy is the highest music." “Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue." “Musical innovation is full of danger to the State, for when modes of music change, the laws of the State always change with them." (Also very creepy.) “If you want to measure the spiritual depth of society, make sure to mark it’s music." Alright if there's anything to take from this, it's to be careful with what you listen to. Know the meaning behind lyrics and don't brush things off as too out there. I get that I sound like a crazy preacher now, but the message of doing as you please, or doing whatever suits you, no matter who gets hurt in the process is a message that is everywhere. Maybe not every song, but if you listen in on your fave albums, a least one song will have that message of not giving a damn. They can be hidden in break up songs, and songs that are supposed to be empowering, and they're usually the most popular ones too (like shake it off, really don't care and we can't stop.) because the best way to hid something is in plain sight. Okay last thing I wanted to say, and let me just add that this is a reminder for me just as it is to you. I write this here so I could see it again every one in a while and not slip into old habits and listen to bad stuff anymore. But yeah, the one thing I hope you take away from this very long message is to care. Don't let yourself become numb and desensitised to terrible things like death, murder, or even stuff like someone touching you inappropriately. Don't brush bad things off as normal, trust your gut and listen to your parents. They've been there, they've done it, and they know you. Okay thanks for reading this far. Imma rest my hands now, lol.
