Please don't give him credit for your
life, the ability to feel happiness seeping through
your arteries,into your heart, your lungs,
spreading across your skin until you are flush and
weak. You were born with the talent to love and be loved in
return, to look at the sky in the day, and gaze at
the stars at night, with or without him by your side.
Please dont think, if in a month, or three,
or twelve, he leaves, that you can't live, that you
can't breathe. Because your mother gave birth to a
beating heart and two working lungs and you knew from the day
you were born. You have always known.
Today he says he loves you. You feel like you might die of happiness. Tomorrow he leaves, he doesn't know what, but something has changed.You feel like the loneliness is filling your lungs with liquid and you're scared it's going to kill you. But with or without him, you'll do just fine because today you've given too much credit to him and tomorrow you won't give enough to yourself.
